Lastly, Primal Sabbath asked to use some of the images, which of course I said go ahead (I don't consider these 'mine' - I'm just reconstructing artwork that existed during the original filming). So anyway, with credit to Punk Wily for creating these, I think they're pretty neat That last Ark interior prompted me to dig out these stills in case he wants to edit them in somehow!
Not exactly a comment related to the customs world, but I gotta say- this thread gave me a new appreciation for the background work done in G1. Some of the panoramic shots of Cybertron are just beautiful.
Thanks guys! For anyone interested Photobox (UK) have a deal on giant posters this week: £4.99. PhotoBox Go for matt though if you can, mine are gloss and they are so reflective it's often hard work photographing figures against them!
Had a request for some 'Dinobot Island' shots, so here we go: And here's a random one from 'Megatron's Master Plan':
OTL, what are some of your recommendations printing? How about any of you guys who have used some of these?
I've only printed two, and they were the larger resolution ones with more fine-tuning work, posted at the very beginning (which you'll see behind most of my customs). So I can't speak for how the rest of the images will look when blown up large scale. Unfortunately there's no easy way to present them for high res (well, maybe you could blur them a bit to try and hide the pixels, but you'd lose some detail of course) other than what I did for those main two, going in and touching them up inch by inch. It was a simple case of me needing as big a backdrop as possible and finding a good deal at an online photo place, which happened to be 40" x 30" from Truprint. My only advice is to try and get matte rather than gloss though, mine are gloss and sometimes catch unwanted light reflections during photography! For everyone who's interested, Superquad has done some great work putting together a dedicated resource for these backgrounds here
Thanks for the thoughts there. If any of you guys end up printing these out and would like to share your printing methods/experience, feel free to post and describe as much as you can, etc. I'll be glad to add it to the ongoing resources here. OptimusTimelord, thanks again for all you've contributed here!
Well for anyone who's been wanting nice backdrop options, there's a site called toystages.com who are doing a whole range of them! Ambitron posted some pics a few days ago and Brr-icy has put up some more photos in the G1 toy appreciation thread. The TF ones don't seem to be up on the site yet but they have lots of other display designs for G.I Joe, He-Man, etc. A lot of generic ones too so they will work for multiple franchises, since they all share that '80s toon vibe (though more detailed and better looking).
Well it's taken me a while to get around to it but it works like a charm image by Danny Campbell, on Flickr image by Danny Campbell, on Flickr
Yeah looks good! And that MTMTE Con set up is the very same scene I'm currently finishing up for my next vid
