Because instead of plastic, he's made of 100% pure win, or so I'm told.

Yup. Been expensive since long before Stormbringer.

It's the usual story - Late G1 toy, not a huge production run, and after they found out he was an important character in the late G1 comic, he became popular with backcollectors (most of whom only realized there were Transformers after the TV show ended, years later!)

Damn, I think I got mine (loose, complete, near mint figure with sticker wear) for about $75. It was a couple of years ago, but I'm surprised prices have gone up that much. It is an excellent figure, though, and one of my favorites from G1 overall.

Thunderwing had a great role in probably the best G1 Marvel comic arc, that's true. But his toy is very nice on its own merits. Out of all the TFs with transformable shells, he's also the best-engineered. If not all pretenders.

This. I love the story arc he was heavily featured in. I still want to track down a G1 toy sometime.

The price has fluctuated plus it also depends on the condition. I purchased a MIB Thunderwing about 5 years ago and paid over $200 for it (the going rate at the time).

He was also in some UK-exclusive stories which told the story of his ascension to Decep leader - #230-231 and 241-242 spring immediately to mind.

I have this figure 100% comp and in excellent condition from my childhood. So I can beat most of you - I think my mum and dad paid £8.99 for him!!

I loved his role in the Marvel saga, but as some one else said, he's a cool figure in his own right too.
