Now that she has spoken, I'm completely on her side.

    Fuck corporations.

This is pretty important, so I've split this into a separate thread and mirrored Anne's open letter. I really hope she gets what she is owed.

Please keep things civil and on-topic, and not slip into arguments over one another's interpretations of the legalities involved.

Excellent information, really clears things up. I hope that she is able to get things straightend out and is paid the amount due to her.

I hope she gets what she's due - I've had people attempt to rip my work off too, it sucks I can tell you.

I'm in full support of her. Originally, my only fear from this was the possibility of never hearing the theme song associated with transformers again. That song has become such a huge part of transformers and it means a lot to us fans.

    Good luck Anne! :D

Very true, considering they TRIED using the theme song in Beast Wars when Ravage transformed into his tape mode that ONE time, and were unable to get the rights to us it. (Not sure if was the original or the Lion version though....)
Infamous? I'll admit I like the tune, but after watching a few epsiodes back to back it does become a little old pretty quick. I actually liked the end song mix better, as opposed to original opening song, but that's just me. As a musician I sure hope she doesn't let up on on her case! Good for her!

With all the bitching major labels do about people on file-shareing networks stealing their property it would be pretty damn hypocritical of them not to pay her royalties.

This is interesting, and I can honestly say that I don't really see what I'd consider a "good" and/or "right" side in all of this.

There are two things which befuddle me about this case:

    1. Why 1994? I assume it's because the series was dwindling off the air at that point (Wasn't 1994 the era of G2, where they played the same episodes again, therefore using her & Ford's theme once more?) Even if the show stopped airing regularly around this point, it doesn't make sense to me that she's pursuing this so late in the game. The Transformers series must have been in full-swing production by at least mid-late 1983, and was probably really in full swing until around 1987, so wouldn't there have been a point somewhere during that period of time where she could have spoken up and noted that her stipend from Sunbow wasn't what it should be?

As I write this, I can think of a number of possible reasons 1994 might have been the deciding date, but it still looks like it's pretty late in the game. Kinda weird.

    2. It seems - at least to me - that Bryant would do better if she was pursuing this alongside her fellow artists, performers and singers (as mentioned in her asterisk at the bottom of the letter.) Bryant vs. BMI seems like a losing battle, especially with Hasbro being the parent organization leaning over BMI's shoulder (figuratively speaking.) I will admit that, honestly, I'm no legal expert, I'm just offering my five cents, but it seems like a class-action suit - one that gathers up ALL of those Sunbow/BMI artists, musicians, etc. that weren't properly compensated - would be a more powerful case.

Regardless of "right" or "wrong" in this, the outcome will be interesting.

So does that mean that for the various releases of the movie (including the recent one), the Rhino G1 DVD's, and the upcoming re-release of the G1 DVDs, she's receiving nothing? If so, wow - that feels really wrong.

I think the LEAST we can do is invite her to Botcon some time. After having Vince Dicola there, its only fair we get one of the series composers, and the one that wrote the song WE ALL KNOW by heart!

You would think that since she wrote the original theme that she would have been already but I second that statement. I also wish Anne the best of luck. The theme is important to all G1 fans but even if for some odd reason this leads to the theme no longer being used it is only fair that the person who wrote it gets her fair share of the profits it has made over the years.

    She was at Transforce 2004.

    http://www.transforce.org.uk/2007guests.htm (see captions)

From what I dimly recall, it wasn't planned, she just found out that there was a convention happening, and they got her involved after discovering who she was. I could be completely misremembering...
