Just a straight repaint of the Hasbro Alternator, keeping the blue plastic and adding red and white paint, with some G1 reprolabels to finish off. I did this a while ago and realised I never really put it online, so here it is :)

It looks like something we should have received FROM the Alt/BT line...

That's brilliant work! The paint job is so smooth.

By the way, who's the green guy?

    Cheers :thumbs2:

The green Ram was an attempt at Alt Hoist. Bot mode never really worked out, but displayed in alt mode he looks ok so I thought I'd give him a cameo, since he's not worth a thread of his own!

This is some mighty fine work. It really takes me back to the first days of Alternators when we were making customs. Zobovor's custom like this stands out to me for that very reason. Seeing this project done by others never gets old :)

Cheers, yeah there's been a few appreciation threads for BT/Alts lately, it's great that it's so fondly remembered!
Ha, yeah it's a fairly obvious project :)  His looks even more G1 than mine! I guess I went for a halfway point between G1 and an "if it were real" approach. Decided to keep the tampo logos to add a touch of extra realism. I did plan to remove them originally because they were yellow, but whilst rubbing paint thinner to get rid of them the colour drained off and that convinced me to keep them.

Damn, love it. Your definately my favorite customizer.

The reason I love your work is because your work fits right in with the rest of the of the official HasTak stuff.

Other custom projects just have a different look and feel and cannot be put next to normal figures. So while that work is indeed amazing, it creates a need for seperate storage. Yours is perfect.

    Some quick questions:
    - Did you take this apart to paint?
    - Did you paint the whole figure from scratch, if so which spray paints did you use?
    - Are those custom stickers? If not where did you get them?
    - The Blue hands, are they painted or just from another figure?

    Great work as usual.

Thanks wan_de_real, yeah I enjoyed this one because it's quite easy but has a huge effect on the figure. We should really have had an official exclusive or eHobby or something in this kind of colour scheme.
    Thanks guys :thumbs2:

You never know though, we may yet get proper MP Datsun bros...

Theres a KO BT that has a decent stab at g1 smokescreen, needs correct rally number etc tho.

Awesome work man, Hoist looks really good too! I'd love to see a group shot with all your customs.

Cheers bud! Yeah although I love seeing customs with cool weathering or hyper-metallic finishes etc, I want mine to sit innocently amongst official releases on display, so I always strive for a "how might it look if HasTak did it?" kind of vibe.

I took apart as much as I could, not pins though. Luckily most pieces clip or screw off fairly easily. The blue is just the original plastic of the toy, so that saved a lot of bother. The white stripe is only along car mode exterior so that was simple. The red is from a spray can of Humbrol, directly on the blue (several coats). Stickers are G1 Smokescreen Reprolabels, which I only really needed for the '38's. Hands from an Alt Prime (needed ball joints bulking up to fit).
Thanks! Yeah I've seen that KO, it came out after I'd done this though. I really haven't done enough customs for a group shot; a lot of headswaps and minor repaints, but my only major projects have been Soundwave and Sideswipe :) banghead:) . Shortly to be joined by Reflector of course

What is that KO Smokescreen? The only one I have seen is a copy of the Alt one, almost directly.

    BTW, OptimusTimelord,

How did you remove all the existing decals? You make this sound easy. I may have to take a stab at it.

    Pretty sure it's this one.
Just some rubbing with paint thinner; takes a bit of labour, but on the plus side the colour comes off first leaving white tampos, some of which look good enough to keep. Continue rubbing and they will eventually disappear altogether. You should give it a go, it was the first big redeco I did and it spurred me on!
