Still a WIP however I think it is starting to capture the feel of the G1 Skyfire. Most of the mods are done with no glueing just cutting and drilling. leg extension thanks to SMOG and inspiration from hXcpunk23. Replaced hands with hands from movie Wreakage. added leg boosters from a Macross kit. May attempt to engineer shoulder and hip joints that swivel. All that is needed is some modifications to the "nose cone" of the jetmode and some minor paint apps and he will be complete. tutorials in the works for all mods. please leave comments and crits. Suggestions welcome as well.
What did you use to get those detail lines on his body? I am brand new to this and that looks cool! Good job with the wings, they look a lot better!
Thanks again for the shout out, man. This is still coming along great--almost there! As for the panel lines, they look really good on this mold. SonOfNemesis: On mine, I used a Pigma Micron 02 pen and basically spent a lot of time detailing it and wiping away any excess before it dried or anything. It looks a lot like what optimusawesome did here, but I'm not sure if he used a pen or a wash of some sort.
Oh, thanks! Where would I find one of those? This is probably the best Skyfire I have ever seen regarding its detail.
I'm not sure if Pigma Micron pens are the same as Gundam Markers. I've used both and they both seem to do the same job. But, the Pigma Micron pens are much easier to get (especially here in the US). You can hit up any hobby store such as Hobby Lobby or Michaels. I know they have them--I'm not sure if places like Hobbytown USA would have them or not--I know they have the models, paints, and scratchbuilding materials, but I've never looked for the 2-D art supplies there. You can buy the Pigma Micron pens in various sized nibs. These pens are used mostly for drawing and inking, but they work well on model kits and things like this also. Here's a link to help you out (I believe you can purchase these as singles or in packages of 3 or 6--I picked up the package of 6 and an extra pack of 3 for use with my drawing/inking and I use the extra smaller nibs for panel lining some of these TF figures). Pigma® Micron® | Welcome to Sakura of America
for the panel lining on mine I just used a sharpie fine tip marker. you can get those pretty much anywhere.
It turned out great, bro. I tried that also, but it looked kinda pale in comparison (it wasn't a new Sharpie) and I decided to go with the Pigma. Can't wait to see this finished--still got mine in a WIP state. lol (I'll still do a tutorial on how I did my mods also--it's always good to get some ideas out for those interested--and I just may have to try what you did to see how that looks on mine).
This is something I keep putting off, but you (and Hxcpunk) have got me thinking I should do this... ...great job here, it so makes for a better Skyfire, not sure why Hasbro did not do this in the first place, but oh well...
now i have always like the g1 jetfire best jetfire toy ever made. Too bad he did not get a bigger part in the series he was just in season one and a part of season two.
dont put it off any longer my friend. I like to see everyones take on this. why didn't hasbro do this? because sometimes they are downright lame in their views of what fans want. IMO jetfire was a good version of a toy back in the G1 line but I was always more of a fan of the G1 skyfire because he was very unique in his alt mode. and I think the vast majority of fans probably are purists like me and feel the same.
