    Hi All,

So the evil G1 curse got me again. So I am curious, for the following figures, which is the best line to get for each, if orginal G1 is not available. Would it be Comm, TFC, Encore, Reissue, or something else all together.

    - Grapple
    - Hoist
    - Red Alert
    - Skids
    - Smokescreen
    - Inferno
    - Tracks

    Thanks,

The G1 reissues of all those figures are pretty solid. If I was buying.... I'd probably get

    Hasbro Red Alert
    Hasbro Grapple
    Hasbro Inferno
Hasbro Hoist (Now, I know his missiles don't shoot but my Encore Trailbreaker has this bad habit of randomly firing his missiles.)

    TFC Tracks
    TFC Smokescreen

Skids? I don't know anything about that character lol. Didn't he become Blitzwing's throne?

In the show where everyone was about as developed as rice pudding, yes. In the recent IDW comics, however, he's a heroic badass amnesiac enjoying the excuse of not remembering who he is.

Which, BTW, I recommend the Encore reissue as it's the cheapest.

Hey now, some of the characters had development. It usually went like

"Hey guys! I'm _______! See you later, I'm a background character now"

    :lol

I'm not a fan of the second wave of cars. Tracks is pretty cool and Smokescreen is ok. The rest...meh. After I finish off my 1984 pre-rubs I think I'm just going to cherry pick my favorite figures regardless of what year they were from.

Basically it comes down to whether you want firing missiles or not. And as Split pointed out, the Encore Skids is the cheapest of that variety.

Encore Skids is a less accurate shade of blue than TFC/CS I believe.

Which probably explains why it's cheaper. Also, Encore Trailbreaker can be gotten for cheap, and I believe it's because of an inaccurately colored visor. Fans...

For me, nothing beats a vintage figure. I enjoy reissues, and really enjoy that "new" sensation from a figure, but there's just something about an authentic figure that grabs me. :)

I hear you, but I've found that after trying that - I don't quite get that thrill. I'm all about the "new" sensation of getting a mint figure. I've found that I far prefer that to paying a lot for a vintage figure that someone else has played with a lot. Most of my collection now consists of reissues, love the reissues.

Skids was also a badass cowboy who took down Megatron in the Marvel G1 run... in his dreams.

He was also some ladies car for awhile and he liked to get washed.

    Best issue ever.

I bought most of the Hasbro Toys R Us exclusive reissues while they were currently at retail. That was definitely the cheapest way to go. But if I were collecting them now on the secondary market, I think I'd be willing to pay the extra for the Takara versions.

    I can totally dig that.

I was in college at the time and had very limited buying power. If I already had the figure, I passed. I regret it, but I couldn't have done much about it anyways.

I totally agree with you on the Takara versions. Despite the recent reissues, I'm really glad I have a Takara bookstyle Soundblaster. I wished Twincast had gotten the box treatment, but I do enjoy the weirdness that is his package - it's one of the things I've always enjoyed about G1 packaging.
