    Hey All,

OK, so the plastic crack addiction has taken hold for a new line. I plan on buying Season 1 only (for now) G1 figures. I am thinking of getting the reissues as they are more minty fresh for reasonable prices.

My question is, what is the best to get for the following if I was going reissue. I am thinking either the collection, encore or US Reissue.

I have been looking at the US Reissues, and they all seem ******ed as they do away with chrome and extend the missles to forever, but still want to get your thoughts on:

    - Starscream
    - Skywarp
    - Thundercracker
    - Jazz
    - Sunstreaker
    - Sideswipe
    - Silverstreak
    - Prowl
    - Hound
    - Optimus

All you need to do is write which is the best one to get.

    Thanks so much.

i have the three seekers, unless you're a seeker fan one will do. i'm a completist when it comes to them, i have to have all three of them dont know why.
i had prowl as a child and i remember being less than impressed with him, so i personally wouldnt bother with him and his mold mates unless your a fan of him.
i'd probably go with hound and suntreaker, probably sideswipe too.

Well what I was planning to do, is to do a nice display with them.

I was thinking stacking them like this:

    - MP/Alt/PP figures in the back
    - Classics in front of them
    - G1 in front of them

    Kinda a progression of sorts.

Takara's Transformers Collection series is pretty nice. I've got the Starscream, and I love him:

Comes in cartoon accurate colors and with a gun-mode Megatron. Also comes with a fist for Optimus Prime to hold Megatron with. Plus, the missiles aren't elongated.

Haven't done a price comparison with Hasbro re-issues lately so I'm not sure how it stacks up - I paid about $100 for it a year ago. Worth the money, IMO.

    - Starscream - Japanese reissue, D-22 or Encore
    - Skywarp - Encore reissue with Thundercracker
    - Thundercracker - Encore reissue with Thundercracker
    - Jazz - Encore with fixed face
    - Sunstreaker - KO, but it's nice
    - Sideswipe - US and TFC are identical
    - Silverstreak - US only, or eHobby anime is nice too
    - Prowl - TFC is better than US due to chrome
    - Hound - TFC only
    - Optimus - Japanese reissues are way better with the long stacks

The Anime colored TFC Starscream really is a nice piece, althought obviously not in the original toy colors.

I think I have a D-22 for sale still, drop me a line if you're interested.

The main difference between Takara and Hasbro reissues are, as you mentioned, lack of chrome and modifications done due to safety. Also the price and availability. Hasbro reissues are usually cheaper and easier to find. It really depends on how picky you are. I go for takara reissues myself.

I agree with Irish Carnage on the seekers. If you're not a big fan, only get your favorite.
Commemorative are not that inferior to takara's reissues, 'cause the extended null rays look alright. Only downside are the jet mode missiles. Note that TFC Starscream is colored in G1 cartoon colors. Others are the colored like the original toys as far as I know.

    - For Optimus and Jazz I'd get encore.
    - Hound was only reissued in TFC, so either that or vintage.
    - Sunstreaker was never reissued officialy, so either get the vintage or a knock off. The same goes for Mirage and Wheeljack.
    - Silverstreak (Bluestreak) was only reissued in the US as far as I know. There is a takara version with a cartoon accurate paint job. (black roof and hood)
    - Prowl and Sideswipe are pretty much the same, aside from the chrome gun and extended missiles.

It always kinda touches a nerve with me when I see people say that the re-issues (or KO's) are more reasonably priced. It's a personal choice, I understand that, but I would like to point out that many of the vintage figures can be found at reasonable prices and a lot of times the KOs and re-issues are NOT reasonably priced. Yes, if you compare it to a completely MINT vintage the vintage figure should cost more, but not by much in some instances. Anywho, that was just a rant. I am posting pics of part of my G1 collection below. I think there are a few reissues. Can you tell which ones? I've been meaning to get the Autobots in robot mode for some time now and just haven't, but I just wanted to make a point here.

as a general rule buy the takara versions over hasbro. For jazz steer clear of collection and go for encore.

Agreed, a lot of the reissues have bloated after market prices.

Great looking G1 collection set up BTW.

TBH, if I could get them all vintage I would. The problem with Vintage is that:

1- It's hard to come by figures that are in really great shape and when you do, people want to ask top top dollar. The thing that set this off was a very nice Prowl I saw for sale in the B/S/T. Granted it is very nice, but the person is asking $100 for it.

This is the norm more so then the exception.

2- Pictures a lot of the time don't tell you things. From the vintages I bought, 50% were in great shape that I was blown away, the other 50% I was so so on. While I was happy to have the toy, there were loose joints, chrome wear, paint chips. Even though the pictures did not show the damage and people's interpretation of loose joints vary.

3- The reissues I have bought have all been in great shape.

So that is why it led me down this path. But if I could, I would go vintage.

    Quick Question:

What is the best way to search for Transformers Collection in the B/S/T. Obviously, 90% of the stuff that will pop will be for someone selling the whole collection, or something that reads transformers. So any tips would be appreciated.

I understand. As I said, I know its a personal choice and thats cool, but you asked for recommendations for reissues and what was the best, so as most have said, the Takara Bookstyle Reissues are clearly the best, but those go for $40-$100 or even more depending on where you look. You could get good deals here on the Junkion Exchange if you are lucky, but my point was, with the same amount of luck, you could find vintage figures in decent shape for the same or less than the Takara reissues. Then again, there are only 22-23 or so Takara reissues, which leaves you with either Encore or TRU Commemorative reissues anyway so you are mixing and matching reissues. Don't even get me started on KO's lol. Anyways, good luck with your search for figures. As far as searching the Junkion, I don't have any good advice as I have also had a difficult time searching on there.

Yeah, I am thinking this is going to be one of those long haul type of collections. From the looks of it everyone on ebay is asking insane prices for those TFC books.

So I guess I will try to collect these as I can and have to luck out.

I was actually lucky enough to just pick 4 of these up shipped for $130. So lucky. Missed on Hound though.

    I got:
    - Jazz
    - Sideswipe
    - Prowl
    - Starscream

I think that was a pretty good deal. So I think they are out there to be had. Now still need to hunt down:
    - Thundercracker
    - Skywarp
    - Sunstreaker
    - Silverstreak
    - Hound
    - Optimus

    Fun fun.
