    Well it does. Spider-Man's costume is like that because that's what Spider-Man's costume is like. In contrast to the X-Men films, where the costumes weren't comic references.

    i give up :)  people have vastly different definitions of what a "reference" is, and I accept that now.

    I noticed two references in RotF
    The one that is more obvious is the character Alice is a Pretender Decepticon
    The other that may not be as obvious is that Skids and Mudflaps, while they still formed into an ice cream truck, is a reference to the Transformers G1 Micromaster Combiner Squads toys, which were basically single vehicles that transforms into two Transformers.
