I've had this toy for about 15-17 years and I don't know anything about it other than its a Japanese exclusive. If anybody knows anything about it, please share: what it was for, where it came from (not just that it's from Japan), its value, etc...

    Thanks

The only thing I know about it other than what you've said already is that was part of a Japanese mail-away promotion. When and what for, though, I've no idea. There's a very short article about it on the Toy Archive, but there's not much information.

No knowledge to share I'm afraid, but thanks for starting an intriguing post. That's some cool packaging, and I'm sure a lot of folks on these boards will find this interesting. Hope you get your answers :)  Is there a story behind how you got it?

There you go! You've got the very first release of G1 Ratchet in Japan, there.

Just seen that boardmember GrimlockSG has one - http://www.grimlock.fotopic.net/p40322390.html

As well as the Wiki link posted before, perhaps he might be a good person to ask for any info. Hope that's of some use. Peace out.

Thanks everyone for finding that page for me and for the other information.

I picked up this toy for about $35 in 1992 or 1993 at kimono my house toys (if you haven't been there it is awesome. It's in Emeryville, CA in the penthouse suite www.kimonomyhousetoys.com. The website doesn't do it justice). Does anyone have an idea of value? I'm not planning on selling it, just curious.
