This person has no taste whatsoever. Quite a few cartoons they mentioned certainly did not age terribly. X(

I know right. Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends has aged terribly? Um, WTF? It's still great. Stan Lee voice overs, hand drawn animation, X-Men crossovers. This guy is clueless.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? I'll agree the show got more chessy as the show went on. But the early seasons were great. And I can't see how anyone could say this unknown series was created just to sell toys. G.I.Joe? This guy is just smoking crack now. The DIC seasons have aged horribly. Not the Sunbow show. And did he just insult Chris Latta's performance? Fuck this guy. X-Men Evolution? Still pretty great. This guy is a hack.

The most shocking part of that article is that people still go to CBR.

This seems like a pretty subjective topic, as in, just because something doesn't 'age well', doesn't automatically make it bad or not worthy of praise or enjoyment.

Best I can say is I agree with some, and I'm surprised by others. It surprises me that TF is 'timeless' and G.I. Joe isn't. I find I actually appreciate some aspects of the Joe cartoon more as an adult than I did as a kid. Heh, maybe he's a comic fan. They're frequently down on the cartoon. :)

I'm a bit surprised that 80's Thundercats was not on either side of that list. That's an "aged terribly" for me, as I liked to watch it as a kid, but after I picked up a DVD set of the cartoon and tried watching, I was like ... "uhh-"

A lot of the original '84 TF show didn't age too well to be honest, couple that with some truly awful animation sometimes as well.

The article writer criticised GI Joe for dumbing down the violence with lasers that were non-lethal, and Chris Latta's annoying voice. Yet apparently it's not an issue in Transformers.

I mean, it kinda is. The first two seasons of The Transformers is one of things where people immediately know what it is, and they know what's being parodied or paid tribute to if such a thing happens (Panty and Stocking, et al.).

The only thing that hasn't aged well is the third-rate hack who wrote that fucking click-bait. Well...him, MOTU, Thundercats and Voltron, that is...

Yeah, that's a really daring opinion to put on the internet. :rolleyes2

I do love G1, and it no doubt captured the interest of countless people who grew up in the 80s, but it also can be very messy, and I find the mostly repetitive episodes and generic casts of the first one-and-a-half seasons to be hard to watch for the most part. It gets a lot more fun once it became less formulaic in the second half of the cartoon's run.

I don't know about that. He-Man has a certain vintage charm to it now with the whole rotoscoping thing. I mean, you just don't see that anymore. It's like looking back at the last of an era. Voltron... is complicated. Thundercats? It's been so long since I've seen a full episode. But I can't imagine it's aged that bad.

You know what HAS aged bad? Filmation's Ghostbusters or even Blackstar. Usually the 80s cartoons that leaned heavily on comedy.
