I've always regretted not having the infamous "gun-Megs" in my collection. I'm trying to decide which version is best, since I figure they'll both cost about the same.

Can I get some opinions from the owners of the respective Megatrons???

Masterpiece Megatron is proably better if you have Masterpiece Prime, however its not without its faults. It has one of the most complicated transformations ever, and a couple pieces have been known to break. Also the legs are very thin, leaving an interesting appearance. Also there have been reports of rust on the feet. Also theres little diecast similar to masterpiece starscream, so it's not that heavy. However if you do get megatron and get the upgrade set by JustitToys then its worth it. The gun mode is huge at that point being easily the longest transformer ever. Also, it has pretty good posing, and a good alt mode.

I don't have G1 Megatron, so i can't really compare them, but from what ive seen, G1 Megs is smaller and not as show accurate if you care about that.

    Apples and oranges.

They are both quite nice, but it's not really fair to compare them. They are different in so many ways. I own G1 Megs because I loved it as a kid. It has a fun, easy transformation, and fires little plastic bullets!

MP-5 Megs is just the opposite. Complicated transformation, great articulation....I fell in love the second I got him. :)

As for the quality controll problems with MP-5, there is not rusty feet. It's just tarnish that can be cleaned off with polish. Mine has never broke , but it's no stretch of the imagination to say that it could break.

You can find cheap G-1 Megatrons still, even MISB. MP-5 is probably going to get more expensive, so from a money standpoint, get him while you can!

    totally agree.
My G1 Megs is ugly as heck in Robot mode, but i still like that over the years, he hasn't broken and is still fun.

don't own MP Megs because of several reasons. but if you can manage it, get the G1 if you can, and get him cheap.

Personally I would go with MP-05, but only if you already have or you plan on getting 20th Prime/Masterpiece Convoy.

IMO They complement each other nicely.

Masterpiece Megatron is by far the best Megs to date. As for his Cosmic Rust Problem it can easily be solved by using Clear Nail Polish.

I've already got MP-01 and Wal-Mart MP Starscream is supposedly en route.

So it sounds like Masterpiece is the way to go????

What about the whole "safety regulation" controversy????

I like G1 Megatron more. It's not quite a cartoon accurate toy, but it is a nice toy in it's own right- heavy and shiny, with a decent robot mode.
MP-05 is not a bad toy either, but i'm not into the light plastic, stick legs, and pouty mouth. Not to mention im afraid to transform it out of the fear that i'll break it. Still, I plan on keeping it in my collection.

I agree on the apples and oranges line of response (these figs are in two different worlds).

So mine had tarnish on the bottom of one foot right out of the package (just got it last week), is it clear nail polish or nail polish remover that I'd want to use to get it off? (nail polish seems like it would just dry onto the foot).

MP-05 is a really stiff toy. After you get beyond the fear of breaking him and transform him the first time you'll feel like you really accomplished something. It's the kind of toy you can only appreciate after struggling with it for a few hours.

If you don't have Masterpiece OP and dont plan on getting him then you're probably better off with crappy G1 Megs.

How do you use the nail polish to solve the Meg's problem?

I would choose G1 Megs by the way - because I'm a G1 crazed fan! XD

    Masterpeice.

He's what G1 Megs should've looked like on the show.

There will always be G1 Megs reissues if you want one, but MP-05 is harder to come by and is more worth it.

I have both, and while I love each almost equally: MP-05>G1.

No Use Alcohol to get the rust off.
Then apply Clear Nail Polish to seal it and protect it from happening again.

I'd go with MP Megs. This is as close to cartoon perfection as you're going to get with Megatron. He really does look great standing next to MP Prime. He's also pretty durable and the skinny legs don't detract from the great look of the figure.

There are some negatives with the figure though such as complex transformation and the cosmic rust on his feet(mine just started showing up). If you're looking to have a display piece or if money is an issue, you should go with the MP.

However, G1 Megs is awesome in his own right. He looks pretty bad in robot mode but is kickass in gun mode. He's also extremely durable with a lot of die cast and has a cool transformation. He also comes with the scope and stock(you don't get that with the MP).

    I say both.
I also had zero Megatrons till mid of last year and then lucked out getting the Takara book style reissue, two S-16's and MP megs. and I love them all equally. But if what your going for is display, then I agree with getting the MP megs.

    I second this opinion.

However, you should weight your options: MP Megatron makes a really awesome display and a companion piece for 20th Ann/MP Prime, while the original G1 Megs is more like an actual toy by being more solid and thus a better choice if you like to tinker with your TFs.

Nothing prevents you from getting both, of course...
