    Dearest Radicons!

I'm done! I'm done! ANyway, I've decided to go on with a metallic sunset yellow stripe as from all the pictures that I've researched on, that seemed most G1 accurate. It took me awhile to get this right as I tried to blend airbrush shading with dry brushing on most of his body. Do let me know how you guys find it! :)

Man thats pretty sweet.. I like it alot .. You should build one of those Light Boxes for taking pics in. I think your details would show up alot better .. Here are some How To's that were posted on the boards here http://www.tfw2005.com/radicons-cus...s-2/light-boxtents-how-to-buildcreate-164065/

I built myself one out of a big cardboard box and some tissue paper. It works great, just need stuff to take pics of now lol lol.

    Anyways Great Ironhide Man :)

I like the colors. Could use some yellow (same as the stripe) on some of the robot parts to better accent them.

yes! You're absolutely right. The camera flash is too strong and a lack of flash under exposes the pictures horribly. I wanted to do up a light box but my mum would kick me out of the house.. literally. My equipment is already cramping up my small house and the whole kitchen smells of thinner. I hope to get it done as soon as I have a house of my own next year. Thanks for the tip!!

Another trick you can try out is use a white background or put a white piece of paper over your flash. The paper will dull it down and not be so strong.. I do this when taking pics of my boxes i make so the flash dont glare off the glossy surface.

you should have an option to disable flash on your camera. I was lucky enough to find a light tent for about $60.00 on ebay, which comes with 2 halogen lamps and a mini-tripod. The filters on the sides filter out most of the light's glares.

The most important thing is to have your camera set up with macro settings, this means changing the aperture and ISO if you need to do it manually. Luckily for me, my camera has a "digital macro" pre-setting, which I set it at, then shoot pics.

nicely done. You should never use flash when photographing your toys. Just get two cheap-o lamps that you can dig out when you wanna take pics.

Wow, great job! Sorry it took me so long to get the photoshop pics up, but I'm glad you figured out what to do with the stripe. It looks great! Those wheel wells sure are awkwardly shaped, I like your idea better. I really like the detail on the inner doors!

Hey Thanks! I just took a chance with the yellow. Hehe. I initially put gold but found that it looked too deep after application. Had to remove it and ended up with this shade of yellow :)

the paintjob is amazing! you really have to share how you come up with such great shading!

if i may nitpick, i think the torso and legs could use a little more detail (maybe some more armor "shards" of red, some copper). they look a little bland in just the silver/gunmetal color.

Yup. I'll certainly add more detail. I think he's a wee bit too plain. Maybe in a day or two. I'm now recovering from an overdose of thinner. Gonna let my eyes clear up 1st.

As for the shading, I was really into the idea of combining a mix of airbrush and drybrush as they both have their strengths and I feel that it's a waste to allow them to highlight the toy in mutually exclusive manner. I had black paint all over for the machine parts. I then took silver and highlighted certain areas that were protruding out (or at least I tried. hehehe) and finished it off with a very light mix of black paint and lightly drybrushed the the entire machine parts.
Took hours of practice before I got it right. But I felt that it was worth every minute spent!

What paint did you use for the glossy red?
