A continuity error, more or less. However, e-hobby did release a Hauler figure, which was a green version of grapple. You can read more here: RoadHauler - Transformers Wiki

Thankfully, that was the first and only continuity error in G1.

    ;)

That can't be part of the G1 continuity, they never say anything about the extra Constructicons in the series. If they released a green Hauler later as an exclusive it doens't matter, Hauler a one shot never reapearing character that's hilarious because of that.

The fact of the matter is that Hauler was too good for G1, or at least that's what his agent told him. The only recognition he was given through the series was by Cliffjumper "Haul him up Hauler!" he exclaimed, and with that Hauler's confidence and ego shot through the roof...and that was just too far.

It "CAN" if Hasbro says so.

I'm not saying they have or will but in the long run there are more then 1 G1 continuity.

So if Hasbro or who ever is writting there fiction for TF's were to adopted the character into any one of them it is their right.

Its been dont before look at Sunstorm.

Actually "TWO SHOT".... Hauler was seen in 2 shots.

My completely fan-made conclusion is that it was Grapple, he was just called Hauler because that was his function. Like if someone called Ratchet "Doc," it wouldn't mean that Doc was an entirely different character.
I kind of do the same thing with the 2007 movie. Is the tank Brawl, or Devastaor? To me he's Brawl, the devastator.

As for the TV show he's just a one shot character (like the no name seekers) that were included in the original 3-part mini series.

I think I read it was grapple but he was originally going to be called hauler but his toy got pushed back and somewhere along the way his name changed. That might just be some ones idea of what happened but it makes sense to me. In story, it was grapple but his either didn't hear or was to well mannered to correct them getting his name wrong.

*makes sure he's linking to TF Wiki and not Teletraan 1*
Hauler was intended to be Grapple. Not really a cartoon cock up so much as a Hasbro one.

One shot does not equal one scene.

Well technically if we want to say he was a two shot character we could say he was somehwere in the scene where the constructicons were building megatron. Of course, Hauler never turned evil so he wouldn't be doing that, would he? Ah, but you've got to remember that that scene was before any of the constructicons were turned evil by Megatron and his robo-smasher, and also before Megatron built the constructicons on Earth.

    Wait....

Ever read Mary Shelley's Frankenstein???????There's no reason to assume that Hauller would be awear that his creation would turn to evil.

    See above.

As you said Megatron "BUILT" them not "Created" them.Built could mean he built them new bodies.

Hauler realized what a stupid name he had and changed it to Grapple after marrying Hoist.

That raises more questions than it answers.
