Ok I am a bit confused with him, I heard that he was supposed to be Hauler I don't know if this is true or not. The reason why I am asking this is because he looks like a construction car. Was he ever a Constructicon and later joined the Autobots while the rest of the Constructicons joined the Decepticons?

    Thanks

No he was always an autobot. Hauler (at least the toy) was green and an E-Hobby release.

and in the cartoon, which would be more appropriate given the first appearance, he was grapple colored. I never could figure out why ehobby went with green but then again I never consider those part of G1. More like variants.

Because if e-Hobby had made him orange, he would have just been Grapple?

I seem to remember eHobby Haulers bio stating he was constantly changing his color scheme to explain the change.

Hauler (later called Road Hauler) was retconed to have been a former Construticon as a way to explain there being eight members during a scene (below) from Five Faces of Darkness Part 4. And he was orange in his season one cameo because there was supposedly some mix up on the release of Grapple in the first series which was the original intent. So the original appearance of an orange crane was to be Grapple but due to the decision to push Grapple back the character was never named and retconed as Hauler by ehobby.

He was named "Hauler" in "More Than Meets the Eye".

    e-Hobby named him "Roadhauler".
