My brother's friend found some of his old toys and gave them to me. He gave me a dinobot sludge. He told me he got it from japan before the dinobots were introduced into the cartoon. I have a g1 dinobot and noticed the neck is slightly different.

The left is the one my friend gave me and the right is the old 1980's us version.
Notice how the mold on the neck has a spot for the autobot sticker and the other one does not have one.

assuming neither is a KO, weren't dinobots from another toyline originally anyway?

not seen a pre rub version before, but i'm not G1 expert by a long shot.

It's either a Diaclone (should have a Takara only stamp) or one of the Japanese mailaway Dinobots didn't have a rubsign.

Didn't the diaclone have blue instead of red?

No your thinking of Grimlock. Doubleclouder is correct either Diaclone or early pre rub version.

Slag and swoop had blue parts instead of red too, while snarl was black. For some reason, only sludge had the same colours in both the diaclone and g1 toys, which makes it hard to distinguish without checking the date stamp or whether he has sharp or blunt teeth

OP, can you post a pic of the datestamp on the one in the left?

I'm sure tfw's dinosaur detectives will be able to shed some light on it :)

Are there any other differences? From the photo it looks like the gold is more silverish on the one in question. Any other mold differences? Also, as was stated stampings would definitely help.

Compare the sharpness of the teeth, Diaclone will have sharper teeth
