    Definitely. Been passing on the movie version, even though it looks nice.
    This one's way better IMO

    So... which piece is the King? Even if it's not him, I'm putting Grimlock in that space

    Nice, but not that nice.

    You would have two Grimlocks, so you'd be short unless you make him Queen and King.

    I like the idea, but not the choice of characters. Grimlock and Starscream should have been the Queens.... it's logical as well as humorous. The use of Season 3 characters kills it for me.

    Oh, and the rooks should have been Citybots. :)  And the knights should be characters in their alt modes (like Autobot sports cars or Decepticon jets).

    One of these days I intend to put together my own ideal TF chess set with PVC or Robot Heroes (or maybe Kabaya) figs. It's just hard to find a line that has all the necessary figures.

    The board itself is pretty cool, though!

    Cheapest shipping is also $37... Some people don't like UPS... So that makes it $50... Want it there faster (priority)? $100.

    Nice, but IMHO way to expensive for what it is.

    Man, this honestly looks horrible. Looks so cheap and cheesy and for $300? Grimlock doesn't even look like he can fit on the squares! The movie version looks way more practical and professional than this POS. I'm a huge Chess fan and I can honestly say this is crap.

    The only good thing about it is the board. Unfortunately the movie versions isn't as nice, but still cool.

    I never felt my TFs needed the chess treatment and I still don't. Too expensive for a 'what the hell' purchase and not expensive enough to be beautiful ala LOTR chess -> pic.

    Meh, I'd rather get the movie chess set. It just looks more "chess-like" with its greater detail and so forth.

    "Me Grimlock king! Me Grimlock marry She-Grimlock so she be queen!"

    I don't think I'll be able to avoid buying this. It's pretty much to world's best conversation piece, and I like chess a lot.
    The character assignments aren't what I would have picked (I don't think I'd have bothered with the season 3 guys) but they work none the less. Having Galvatron in this set and no Cyclonus also doesn't really work for me. I think they should have stuck to either pre or post movie.
    I guess if I could pick:
    King = Optimus Prime
    Queen = Ironhide
    Knight = Grimlock
    Bishop = Prowl
    Rook = Jazz
    Pawn = Bumblebee / Cliffjumper

    King = Megatron
    Queen = Soundwave
    Knight = Starscream
    Bishop = Menasor
    Rook = Devastator
    Pawn = Insecticons

    Granted if I could do ANYTHING I'd have a King Starscream (crown and all) and make Megs the pawn, but don't think I'd get much support for that one. ~_^

    Looks really good and well done. The price tag however is too much for me.

    Yeah, same here. If it's gonna be more than $50, it might as well be $600 and have really nice sculpts, with each piece a different character.

    I understand why they went the way they did...it's just not for me.
