I got a G1 mold Blaster from a friend and I was wondering: How do I know if it is an original G1 Blaster or a reissue?

Look on the back for the place it was made in. If it's got the proper stamping and made in Japan, then you have an original.

Not sure if Blaster was really KO'd or even reissued though...

IIRC wasn't the tape deck mechanism modified in the reissue to allow for easier opening/closing?

    Here's what I have:

I tried taking a picture of the back where it has the information but I couldn't get it to come out in the pic.

    On the back it says:

    (C) HASBRO - 1984
    (Japanese leters)
    (C) TAKARA CO., LTD. - 1984
    JAPAN

Sounds like an original. The only reissue was the Transformers Collection series one, which IIRC had some sort of updated markings regarding trademarks.

If you've had it for a good few years, then odds are its an original. The copyright information certainly makes it sound like an original.

FYI - in robot mode, you can push those black sections into the legs, it improves stability. Same with the arms, they push in so the arms aren't hanging in space with the pin exposed.

I've had it for about 2 years, but I don't know how long my friend had it before he gave it to me. I found the reissue pics in the gallery, but the one that was photographed seems to have a lighter gray than mine, is this just the camera or is that significant?

P.S. - thanks for the stability suggestion

I just found on Seibertron.com that the G1 issue had a darker gray and the gray seemed to have swirls in the plastic - the reissue fixed both of those - and mine is a darker gray and has the swirls, so I guess case closed... I have an original. :D

Thanks again Sol Fury for the tip, it helped. :thumb

I'd like to find one of these to go against upcoming Soundwave.

    made in japan = orignal
    made in china = reissue

I think this rule applies to all g1 reissues except ratbat, which certain version of reissue(SDCC or encore) came with a Japan stamp.
