Since Cobra Commander is the leader do you think Destro wanted or even tried to overthrow or backstabb Cobra Commander to become leader just like Starcream wanted to overthrow Megatron??

Destro and Starscream worked together at one point to overthrow Cobra Commander and Megatron. I'm serious.

Usurpation and democracy don't usually mix.

Destro worked with Dr. Mindbender and the upper levels of command to create Serpentor, who booted the Commander from power. Destro never wanted control of Cobra, but he was more than happy to find more competant leadership.

Then the Commander became the Starscream analog by trying to usurp Serpentor.

I think the only thing Destro cares about is making weapons and being paid :)

Destro was always the arm dealer without the desire of world domination that Cobra had. In fact if Cobra ever took over the world that might really cut into the profits of MARS Industries. So it seemed like Destro was there to make sure Cobra was never totally defeated thus losing him his best customer.

Plus Destro had his own forces known as the Iron Grenadiers so he didn't have to take over Cobra to have troops like Starscream needed to take over the Decepticons to have troops of his own.

this is all there is to any similarities. Cobra Commander equates to Starscream when Serpentor came into play...He became pretty lame at that point.

He's probably talking about the comics.

He is most definitely talking about the comics, as the only cartoon crossover was the S3 episode "Only Human"
