If this has been done before sorry but I couldn't help myself.

What are the official Alt mode names for G1 charactors like Optimus, Megatron, Soundwave, wheeljack, etc.?

    Much thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about what exact brand of things Optimus and Soundwave are, but Wheeljack is a Lancia Stratos and Megatron is a Walther P38.

I'm sure there's a list of all of them somewhere.

A few years ago, Antartic Press published their Cybertronian books, aka the Unofficial Transformers Recognition Guides. The first 5 volumes cover G1 and volume 6 covers all of G2, but I don't have any issues beyond that. According to volume 1, the list you have is as follows.

Op: Freightliner COE (Cab-Over-Engine) Dual Axel Semi-Truck with trailer

Megatron: Walther P38 (the full accessory version is called the "U.N.C.L.E." type after the TV show, "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.")

    Soundwave: Sony Walkman Micro-Cassette Recorder

    Wheeljack: Lancia Stratos Turbo

I can list more from the books, if anyone wants.:D

NOTE TO ADMIN: I think it might be good to have a section on TFW2005 devoted to this topic as it is raised so often. Perhaps it could have the actual photos of all the g1 alt modes, with identification.

That's pretty close, though the book lists a few like this:

Hound and Bumblebee are the same as above.
Windcharger is called a "Pontiac Firebird Trans Am."
Cliffjumper is a Porsche 924 Turbo.
Brawn is a Land Rover Defender 4X4.
Huffer is an "American Semi-Truck Cab," but to me, he looks the same as Op.
Gears is the only one still unknown. Some type of 4WD Offroad Truck.

Oh, and "Bumper" or "Bumblejumper" is a Mazda Familia 1500 XG.

Well, that covers Hound and the S1 Minis.

I think Huffer an Pipes were just generic cab overs, while Prime was modelled after a specific real truck.
