Simon Furman updated his blog yet again, this time describing what direction the comic will take starting with Issue #7. The focus will be changing. The details are SPOILERISH, so see for yourself.... http://simonfurman.wordpress.com/2007/10/11/script-wrap-uk/#comments
The novel shouldn't take precedence over the actual movie. I suppose they'll say something like "the audience we're aiming for is too young to see the movie, you don't see Barricade much at the end and we wanted to use the character". Oh and they got Marvel's Wonder Man to do the art. Cool.
Anybody else notice that he specifically used "Devastator" instead of "Brawl?" Guess we're stuck with it now.
Furman's been consistent on his use of Devastator instead of Brawl. This isn't his first blog update where he's used the name used in the movie. -airfox
Ah. I was unaware of that. I do wish someone would take that by the balls and cement a position one way or another, before we end up with the inevitable TIB/TID arguments going on.
The movie says Devastator. Ergo, since it's (along with it's sequels) the "core" canon for the movieverse, with everything else spinning off from it, anything which contradicts that is de jure wrong.
Following text mentions some of Furman's spoilerish comments. But if the stories from issue #7 are going to move forward to right after the final events of the movie, i think they're going to be rather limited in what events they can portray. But then i think the stories that could be told were always going to be somewhat restricted in this UK mag. Maybe they should just do a completely different movie continuity altogether?
Hasbro, the company that owns the franchise and the license, says he's Brawl. It has been stated that the name was left in by accident so what's with all of the one vs another. Sounds pretty settled to me.
I didn't even know such a comic existed! I enjoyed the IDW prequel even more than the actual movie, and I'm really interested in reading the issues 1-6 that take place during that time. Any idea how to get this comic if you're in the USA?
Good question. I don't know if they ship to the US if you subscribe. Speaking of UK comics- have the Pannini Armada comics been collected/reprinted/brought to the US? Has Titan done another UK collection since the last manga-sized B&W collection?
I've been able to pick this up in my local Sainsbury's or WHSmiths, and I know that various Forbidden Planets have been stocking them, too. This information is probably of limited use to you, however. There is a mail order subscription service for the comic, though, that might be listed on the website. I'd post you the information here, except that right now my ex-housemate is borrowing all of the UK comics. Which I might see back at some point next year. But if you want, I can go and sneakily infiltrate his house and go find out the details...
It seems to pretty readily available up north (I live in South Yorkshire). I've not been looking for it in the shops, as I've subscribed, but I've noticed it on the shelves in my local WH Smith, Asda and Co-op.
Well, that's kind of my point as well. Hasbro says Brawl, people behind the movie say "whoops, Devastator was an accident," but no one bothered to fix it, despite the fact that it could have been done fairly simply for the DVD release, and Furman continues to use Devastator. I mean, if this were a fill-in writer using only the movie as a reference, I'd get it, but we're talking about Simon FUCKING Furman here. You'd think someone would've slipped him a note or something.
