http://simonfurman.wordpress.com/2008/01/01/in-with-the-new/ Considering they've gone back to Megatron's origin already, are we getting a Nova Prime mini-series?
I gave up on the new comics when I found it too hard to get them all leaving me with gaps in the story. Every comic shop in town would tell me that their orders for that issue were on back order ( which never comes in ) or was canceled by the distributor. Leaving me with incomplete stories. I never did ever find the movie prequel #3 or 4.
IMO there is way to much stuff going on. I think I'm going to just focus on animated. The characterization in that toon has impressed me more than the new comics.
Too much going on? If you take all of the main TF comics + the spotlights, you STILL don't have a monthly series... How is that too much? Chris
Licence necessities IDW has got to make money out of this licence for 2 reasons : 1. Return of investment 2. Licence Requirements Number 1 : I think we can assume they've broken even by now, and most likely made money on top of the costs of getting the licence. IDW artist rates are the lowest amongst top tier publishers. Combine that with books priced at 3.99$ then we can assume the above statement. Number 2 : Hasbro won't let their #1 property in the hands of bumbling baffoons anymore. Hence they not only require on-time royaltees statements/payments, but also have financial target expectations from all licencees. For example it is not unlikely for a licensor to ask for X amount of copy to be sold each month (or reversely X amount of royaltee dollars to be generated per determinded period). IDW has then the burden of churning out whatever they can to meet these goals. Otherwise they fall into : Material breach of contract. Which means they usually have 15 or 30 days to cure such breach, otherwise the licence is yanked (normally with a sell-off grace period) and sold to another company. Finally : IDW has made good products, they've proven themselves to be capable of handling multiple high-profile properties at the same time. Are them comics equal in quality ? Hell no. Do they satisfy their licensors ? Certainly. And the comics, are they fondly cherished by fans ? I let you answer that question. Unfortunately for many TF fans all of this means only one thing : you probably won't get what you really want, whatever that is. And for me ? I miss the spacy synth sound in the background of almost every G1 Cybertron cartoon scenes. It made me wonder... Godspeed -Greenspan
Grimlock! I can't wait for this. And I'll be even more excited when I can buy toys and comics for Animated. That sort of coordination is key to enjoying the series to it's fullest extent. Has there been any mention of when we can expect Animated comics?
The first two are expected later this month, which will cover the episodes we've seen at that point. Volume 3 is tentatively May, with Volume 4 in July.
Intriguing stuff for TFs comics planned for 2008. The theories about a potential Nova Prime past series is tantalizing! I'm curious about the new direction for the TFs UK comic this year as well.
