FUCK YES!! They did it.. they got it perfect! I am so excited for this set. Up until now that was my only concern that there would be parts sitting around in any of the modes. EDIT: Added the relevant pics for folks having trouble seeing them through the link..

That answers that question. The Devastator hand does indeed integrate with the vehicle mode. It looks like you could leave it on his back too but I'm not sure how much that would interfere with the steam shovel arm already there.
this doesnt look like much for a $100. The more I look at this, the less I feel its worth the money. I was all over this at first but the final product of this first bot has really turned me off.
How are you seeing that? It looks like it isn't on the vehicle at all to me. I always figured the hand would be an add on from the earlier pics, I'm a little disappointed the cab is just parts formed onto the Exgraver's fist in vehicle mode. The colors make the plastic look cheap. The red pistol seems completely random and superfluous, I think I'd be in if he were say 50-60 beans. As is, don't think so.
Do you have to switch sides with the cab to work in armmode? That just seems like an odd part to make come off.Like others have said,this isn't a 100$ toy.
