All right, im done.... im frustrated you know this whole TROLL and FLAME WAR shit you hear about? Its a pretty loaded term, i mean there is obvious trolling and flame war starting nonsense and then there is percieved flame war nonsense and i really cant see the line in the sand anymore that seperates the two. Ive been to a few boards now and i see people being attacked as being a flamer or a troll for voicing a genuine non goading, non baiting opinion... or at least imo thats how it seemed. Recently i had the displeasure of walking into a flame war between two popular forum mods and the results were catastrophic... for a number of reasons

    1. every mod has his army, either of friends or people sucking ass in hopes of getting a staff badge or just in their good graces.

    2. every conflict has its legitimate opposite sides, but then there are those people who will come in with scathing comments just to fuel the fire, i.e trolls flamers

    3. mods (not all, i dont wish to generalize) have a tendency to believe that because they own/mod a server that they can throw out an opinion comment on it, flame another member...and then ban someone for coming back with an opposing opinion or a retort for the flame. THATS RIDICULOUS ive seen it a lot the last few days too. Not here mind you, i cant say it doesnt happen here but i can say that i havent personally witnessed it.

    4. I can say that its a sad sad day for the TFandom, it appears that idiocy spins its web in even the most innocent of circles, opinions are wide ranging but i always wince when it comes to name calling and your momma jokes because of a difference in viewpoint.

    5. So now what? Ive voiced a legitimate opinion im asking for your views.... does this make me a flamer, or a troll.... or could i just be genuinely concerned about the fandom and the boards i frequent.

    6. I have to say my experience here has been a good one to date. Ive had a run in with a mod or two that i didnt agree with, but nothing came of that. Its great to be able to express your opinion but i also understand that a mod has to step in once and a while in order to keep the peace... That being said im still glad that there is room here for open debate, and even a thread for nonsensical jargin for those people who just have to share how green their shit was today lol.

    7. I <3 TFW and I <3 the fandom and im making a plea to mod and member alike not to let the forum become like the other forums i frequent and get into mudslinging and forum bashing.

Thanks for hearing me rant, im not as frustrated anymore.

The internet is far much more interesting and more fun and forums are more entertaining when you do one simple thing:

    Don't take it so seriously.

Well thats the problem, the forums like an actual conversation can be taken seriously half the reason i come to these forums is because of serious posts... if i didnt want to take it at least somewhat seriously id post in the fuzzy world wouldnt I? I appreciate your opinion however.

    That wasn't very nice...

B.O.T. Taking message boards seriously is hazardous to your health... The Surgeon General would like to remind all posters that there is life outside the digital world and that is more important than what someone says in here... Everything that goes on a message board should NOT have the ability cause stress, high blood pressure, seizures, etc...

If they do, consult a psychiatrist before going to see your doctor about those symptoms...

im not stressed about it lol, but would you want to look at a pretty girl if she had shit all over her face? No? well thats what its like going to a forum thats dedicated to one of the things you love most.. and then seeing people tear the shit out of each other, their mom and dog just because they oppose the views of the poster like that guy up there.

I suppose thats true.... but difficult as well, especially if its a favorite site to frequent. On the other hand i suppose you always have the option to simply not post/read post. Which is sometimes difficult if your walking into a thread unaware, or if you have a friend who might be the one being treated unfairly.

Very well said. It is good to voice your frustrations and you feel better after you rant. TFW imo is one of the few places you can just sit back and chill and not have the drama you are ranting about.. Skrew some Drama!!

I posted this in the fuzzy, and I feel it's equally appropriate here:

Re: Flamewars and trolling vs. what's perceived to be an insult or anything the site owners don't like: I can't do shit about it. It's not my website; I'm just a guest. As are you. Therefore, any "fair ground" or "equal opportunity" ideas about communication go out the window. If they (mods, admin, staff, etc.) want you to shut the fuck up, they can make it happen. Because it's their site.

Frustrating, I know, but that's the way it is. A lot of the older regulars used to say this, and I think it's appropriate:

"If you don't like it, go make your own site."

...and you've gotta admit, the going amount of moderator tolerance around here is impressively, nay, respectably, high. Compare TFW2005 to Murphy's site, where you make one or two counterpoints about Murphy's interaction with the fandom and get banned. That's why I love it here and keep coming back.

I dunno... TFW is pretty good and I tend to avoid places that it tends to happen often in (GameFaqs is really bad, so I generally avoid the forums unless it's a game I really like and even then, I take them with a huge grain of salt).

There's that old Penny Arcade strip that I believe someone on here had as a sig awhile ago... it had an equation somewhat like the following:

Normal Person + Internet + Total Anonymity = Total Fuckwad

And then the picture of the guy in the last picture had him saying "Shitcock". I remember that vividly.

    Heh. "Shitcock".

Yeah i suppose thats the grim reality of it all. I dont see it that way because the way i look at things is a forum wouldnt be as big as it is if it wasnt for the fans that support it..am i wrong? So why shouldnt it piss me off when i see hipocracy on a forum that me and my friends helped to build (not tfw specifically m a relatively new member here) but do you see my point? I accept it though because ts like that everywhere not just on the forums.... but look at the TFandom or Star Wars these franchises got as popular as the have because of the fans thatr watched the movie/show, bought the merchandise, and introduced new generations to the phenomenon and I believe that listening to the people who made your product what it is is important... i may be in the minority there, but no one likes to be the subject of hipocracy'. That being said i can understand the opinion of "well if your being treated so badly, why would you want to be there" The answer i have for that is, in mot cases its just one person on the entire staff, or a user and his followers which cause the problem in wich case you of the mindset of "why should i lt this fucker chase me off a site i enjoy". Once again i appreciate peoples input but if your just going to ridicule it rather then lend something helpful or insiteful please resist responding.

At lot of what people perceive as flaming is actually just people typing what they would say in a joking tone. The problem is, the internet isn't voice based so it's rather hard to construe emotions. So if I told you:

"Go cry to your mother you pantywaste bastard."
I could either be joking (as is 99% of the time the case with me in person and thusly, the net) or I could be being a bastard (though since I have had no personal releations with you would be impossible).

For example, I refer you to the "T.O. tried to kill himself?!?!" thread. I made the comment that atheletes accomplish nothing. Several members (Jux most notably) shot right back with very good counter arguments. Now, perhaps they were truly offended by my remarks and were being complete and utter assholes with their repsonses. Or (more realistically since I don't assume the worst in people) they were just voicing their opinions on my opinionated comments and erm...opinions.

The whole trick is to read what people type and assume that they aren't being assholes. I you always assume they are being jerks, then you're gonna think everything that comes out of their mouth in a snide remark.

The gist of what I'm saying is that a fair percentage of what people construe as "flaming" is just people trying to be funny.

Worked out perfectly since no one posted before I got finished posting.
