I’m finishing a basement room out that’s been in disrepair for various reasons since we moved in 5 years ago. This room sits next to another room of matching size and general description. The finished room currently houses most of my collection and my daughters toys. When the 2nd room has its carpet tiles installed in a week or so I’ll begin the process of splitting and moving the contents of the room with the blue accent wall.

Redoing this room is a part of a failed bathroom remodel above it, a partially finished whole basement flooring job on my part, and a upgrade to the downstairs bathroom with ceramic tile along with tile replacing a water damaged section of flooring by door way. I say all that to point out none of this was motivated by me getting my own collection room. My collection as it has grown has at some point been in practically every room of the house. As all these projects where wrapping up it hit me..... my god, we can have one of these rooms to throw all my daughters stuff into that’s all through the house and I can have my own dedicated room with my collection that all throughout the house...... a room with a door I can close.....

Normally I see what I want and have no trouble executing a vision. Right now I’m kind of a blank slate on how my collection room is going to come together. It’s a touch of a exilerating feeling, thus this “blog”. There are so many moving parts to my thinking, this is mainly meant as a way for me to just get this all out.

Choose 1st. Which room is mine? I like the colors of the white room with blue accent wall. The other room is a salmon color I like, but don’t love. It’s kind of pinkish and would be fitting my daughters toys better. The salmon colored room will be getting a amazing digitized carpet square flooring that my wife picked out and immediately said “your cases will look great with that”

    Items of note.
    - white room is under my bedroom. Can hear wife move around, she can hear tv bleed through floor
-salmon room under tile bathroom, more sound proof
-wife wants my cases in salmon room.
    - if I repaint salmon room it will trigger her to have me repaint other things while I’m in paint mode. Married men are familiar with this phenomenon
-white room has cable hook up

Desicion.... is going to go ahead and move into the salmon room. Just please no one call it pink. I think when the floor tiles go it it will help.

Choose second. Display cases and style. The rooms primary function is displaying my stuff. So I’ve decided the first things into the room will my collection. I’ve been looking at retail display cabinets. The new ones I’m looking at run $500 to $900 depending on the shipping. The one i had picked out, obviously it would be freight and expensive to ship, but once I got to pay for shipping page, they indicated they’d only deliver to a loading dock because the shipping weight was almost 500lbs presumably. I decided I would investigate pawn shops and local based retail store supply companies. I’ve spent between 15-20k on my collection. It’s worth spending money on a expensive case

I do currently have 3 different kinds of ikea display cases. None look more impressive, nor show off what’s inside as well as my bank of detolfs. The other ikea cases have to much framing. The more wood then glass kind of hinders visibility of the interior.

I’ll probably put up some floating shelves. But to much of that looks trash.
So I’m going to troll around some pawn shops or vape stores going out of business to buy a used display case. Or after my room is finished and I’ve been in there for awhile, next Christmas I’ll spend 800$ on a retail display. Till then what I have is included in the pictures below. They will all move in first, knowing they may be swapped out. But just getting tf’s all into 1 room is really step 1

Desicion 3. Layout. The room has a cool wall with a ledge. I don’t want to cover that up nor overload the ledge with stuff. (Painting accent color on lower section of wall definitely option as long as it doesn’t trigger other painting projects throughout house. ). Because of the wall ledge that limits me to 3 walks to set furniture along. Considering 1 single comfy chair that swivels and turns, 1 coffee table by chair by window. 1 cool large entertainment center that will eat up most of the wall the door opens into.

Desicion 4. Besides tf’s what goes in room? Currently in the basement there are two direct tv receivers. 1 I’m daughters toy room. 1 in main area of basement. My Xbox is connected to this. Long term I’d like to secure new 4K tv and 4k game console for this room. Short term I don’t want to move tv and Xbox for temporary assignment just to leave open space in living room wall. Entertainment center will be moved into room for staging and reference only. Gaming and movie watching will remain in main section of library

All comic related statues, wall hangings, along with marvel 6 inch figures considered for inclusion. Actual comic collection to large to move into space? With g1 Mp wrapping up, do I have enough room to start gi joe collection?

Uploaded on thread creation are all the raw materials I’m working with. Next week I’ll update when carpet goes down and cases move in.

Carpet took forever. But it’s beginning. I’m trying to move slow. Not just move everything in there instantly

I’m starting to think no chair or couch in the room. Just floor time. But that seems a touch to much. Maybe a small chair. Definitely need a second large lighted retail type display case. Not sure if kids the main line hasbro figures are going to come in or not

I thought removing a return vent and hiding my surge protector and diodes plugs in there was genius.

This has been a great month. I’ve had a bunch of long drawn out projects wrap up. So I’m just now really getting to settle into the room.

I have a what can only be described as “stunning” display case on order that will fill the empty area behind my chair. It’s going to have my chugs and Mp alt modes and duplicates shown off in it. That will allow my statues to slide into the grey lighted case and give my Mp collection plenty of room.

Normally combiners and omega supreme stand on top the bank of detolfs...... but I was playing with them and it’s my room. I’ll leave them out if I wish

thank you.. i framed it despite that not being show accurate. kind of holding off on any other wall coverings..... i could do movie posters, or my silver age comics... just not sure how busy i want the walls to be. i have a new case being shipped to me. its coming frieght, expected delivery was today.... saddly the frieght company just called and said it will be monday.. i was so excited to have all weekend to build him, go to ikea for lights, then stock the shelves.... oh well, next week. I want to wait on getting it set up before i press forward with other wall coverings or tables. ive premeasured the room and have a pretty good feel for where stuff will fit in.

Currently pacing around my glass vendors office, like a expectant father waiting for the lady to emerge with news on my snafu

Huuzaahhhh. It can be gotten. She’s checking prices and calling me back. I do auto body and do a lot of business with these guys. They saved me. My wife was fucking pissed

But I still don’t want to talk about it

In the end it’s my fault. I over tightened the hardware during assembly (I know better) and tried to do something while my helper was away later at night when I start to get tired and sloppy. I was lifting the top piece into place and bumped the corner of the part I was moving into the side piece already mounted. It popped like it’s designed too

Hindsight being what it is I’m fortunate I didn’t hurt myself or the dogs. While taking it apart my son dropped the back panel litterally on his forehead because he got . I’m so lucky he didn’t kill himself. Shocked that glass didn’t break, but it is quality glass

7-10 days I should get a replacement piece and we can try it again. This time wearing protective gear and being much more careful. It was going together so well I got over confident..... that won’t happen again. Everything is in my collection room has been a painful problem and delay. Why not this. At least thIs is my fault

When I first viewed these images and saw the glass display my first thought was I couldn't have that much glass around for fear, and the next was what happened.

    I can feel your pain.

I had a feeling something like that would happen with glass display cases that looks like the glass is supportinting the weight of every thing. If you ask me i like to get something that uses something like a aluminium frame to supporrt the basic structure.

Something like this available here in australia TGL 1000 Glass Display Cabinet – Fully Assembled - Showfront

But back on topic thank you for share you collection photos. :)

I broke it during assembly by striking the glass in a very specific way while it was in a vulnerable position. I’m confident Once everything is together properly it will be fine.

Definitely more a concern now, but I’m more motivated to finish it well.
