Let me say this first, I have not met this friend in real life, but I know him from Xbox live and we talk to each other using vistor messages rather frequently here at TFW. (His profile name is Biofan813)

Anyway, this collapsed lung of his has happened before, and has had to stay a couple of nights in the hospital before for this.

He is in the hospital now and last I heard from him, he's going to have surgery tomorrow morning. Also with this he asked me to pray for him tonight.

So what I ask of you fellow Transformer fans, is to pray for him too.

This happened to a friend of mine at work a few years back. I was working in a small office adjacent to the bakery before the store opened, and he (who worked in the bakery) comes up and says he can't catch his breath and his chest really hurts. Well, we grab the manager on duty and get him to the hospital quick. Yeah, his lung basically popped. They had to put in a tube with a valve on it for a couple days until it healed up. The guy was a smoker and unfortunately he didn't quit after that either.

I've had a collapsed lung before. It sucked. I'm not a smoker, but they're apparently common amongst tall skinny people. Hopefully he'll be ok, I know what it feels like.

This happened to a friend of mine who is skinny and a pot smoker; in his mind, he thought it shouldnt have happened because all the tar from smoking shouldve kept his lungs from collapsing....

Thank you all for being supportive and wishing him good luck. Seriously, thanks.

Were you underweight when your lung collapsed? I'm asking because I have a little brother who is "tall and skinny" for his age and is underweight.

Ah, pneumothoraxes. What everyone here is saying about them being common in tall, thin young men (even more so if they're smokers) holds quite true. I hope your friend recovers soon.

If anything, the tar and the chronic obstruction it can cause within the airways is MORE likely to lead to lung collapse, albeit not because of a pneumothorax. You'd best tell him how misguided he is.

A big thanks to all of you for your concern.

I'll let you know if I get any updates, but as far as I know, he had surgery this morning, and is still in the hospital, but I'm not saying I've had contact with him yet.

    Anyway, thank you. :)

My brother had this happen, once with one lung, then with the other, then shortly after that with both. He's better now, and hopefully the problem is fixed for good.
I'll keep your friend in my prayers.

    I don't think I was underweight. 6'1" and 160lbs or so.

My best friend has had it happen twice, and the last time seeing her in the hospital was pretty scary. Sending thoughts and prayers his way and I hope he has a speedy recovery!
