I had no idea that it was released until I saw it for rental at the local gas station. I still remember my dad renting that and GI Joe the movie...wasn't a good night watching Prime die and Duke nearly die.

Dude, actually Duke died but...Hasbro changed the script (read somewhere) by adding the announcement that Duke's fine towards the end of the movie! :D

I saw it the day it was released in the theater--still love it to this day. BUT, I'm also one of the guys that hates it because it killed off too many great characters (Ironhide, Prowl, Ratchet, Brawn, and even Optimus Prime). I also remember the day I finally found it in my local video store once it was released. I bet I rented that sucker 100 times, then they either sold it or trashed it or something. For a good 10 years, no video store I visited had it. I was dying to watch it again and I finally did when the ol' Rhino DVD release came out. Owned it and watched it quite a bit, until the more recent 2-disc Sony DVD came out with all the extras.

Still love this movie to this day though--and I recently got my niece and nephew to watch it and they loved it (my nephew laughed when Galvatron destroyed Starscream), but even they hated seeing some "cool guys" die.

    Actually (*put on nerd hat*):

The original script had Duke die. It was sent off to the animators to begin animation. The backlash from the death of Optimus Prime hit Hasbro, and they decided they can't kill off Duke or they'd risk pissing off more parents and kids.

So the animation comes back, and Duke dies. That's why everyone is crying their fucking eyes out. But they change the dubbing, so that he goes in to a coma rather than die.

The end of the movie? Where they cheer? It was supposed to be because all the spores burned up in space. Not because Duke survived.

Ah I still remember it well. I was spending that week with my cousin. I was 13 and he was 9. Every other day my aunt gave us each $10 to walk up to the local mall and see a movie or go to the arcade or whatever. We watched that movie 3 times that week! Every night she would ask us what we did and after hearing of us watching Transformers 3 times in one week we lost our "mall money". But hey, man were those good times!
