Next year we finally see the end of a dark, dark time for comics. Brian Michael Bendis is leaving the Avengers franchise.

Brian Bendis To Leave The Avengers In 2012 Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Hopefully he'll be replaced by someone who can write more than one kind of dialogue and has less than 100% of their head up their ass.

Oh thank God, maybe now the Avengers can get back to being Earth's Mightiest Heroes instead of Earth's Talkiest Heroes Who Sit Around the Mansion the Entire Day.

I might now actually buy the book again.

I don't actually mind Bendis that much, but I think he's much better left with his own universe where he can do whatever he wants and cause whatever collateral damage to the characters he feels like trying out, without having to worry about how it will affect the other books.

I actually like some of his older stuff, but stuff in the last few years, I cringe that I buy it. I want Johns to write Avengers. Bet they give Avengers to Fraction though :/.

So do I! He was doing really great work with Avengers before DC locked him up. Plus his Avengers really dealt with huge menaces, brought back classic villains and were true to character. I would've wanted to see what he would have done with the Zodiac subplot that he was building up.

One of my friends made a cynical comment about Bendis probably being replaced with Jeph Loeb. Sadly, I can totally see that happening. I'd probably still prefer it, though.

Sadly, that's actually a possibility. If that's the case, I hope we get the Jeph Loeb who wrote the first two arcs of Superman Batman and not the one who wrote Ultimates 3/Ultimatum.

Happy about this (so very happy), but the replacement could be worse (Loeb).

The thing about Loeb though, is at least he can do action movie stuff, which is pretty much what the Avengers should be like, not the talky drama Bendis made it to be.

Yeah...that only holds true for me when it involved Peter Parker.

Otherwise, even if Bendis is leaving Avengers...I doubt I'll ever pick up an Avengers title ever again.

Yeah, so long as he doesn't make in an Ultimatum-style gorefest I'd happily take Loeb over Bendis.

I actually don't mind talky drama when it's good, but Bendis does not do good talky drama. Not in his team books at least. Everyone's dialogue is just interchangeable Buffyspeak and it gets old and annoying fast. His Fear Itself tie-ins just drove me crazy; devoting one issue to talking heads narrating and commenting on an action scene is bad enough, but he did it for every Fear Itself issue on both Avengers books. I could not freaking stand those issues.

I don't mind talky drama as well, but Avengers is not the place you should be putting it in. I found it crazy that Marvel was making Fear Itself to be this huge scary conflict inside its books, and you've got the Avengers conducting what looks to be interviews describing their experience in it while the entire world is in chaos? I mean what the hell? This isn't a reality TV show where you go describing your feelings and frustrations after each task! :lol

    ^Same!

Busiek's run sort of sputtered down the line with the Triune Understanding and the Kang War, but the early parts of the run were just classic Avengers writing. Ultron Unlimited is still one of the best Avengers stories ever written. I love that the new Avengers cartoon gave nods to that story, particularly Thor's "Ultron, we would have words with thee." line

Actually what annoys me the most is Buizek had fixed and explained the Avengers then effed up continuity issues, only for Bendis to come in and eff them up again.
