I just preordered the FP Munitioner and Explorer based on the in-color preorder photos. I'm just too big a fan of Swindle and Blast Off to go without these two.

Now I already have the Energon version of Bruticus Maximus (and incidentally, the TFCC free toys too) and my idea is to just try to make the Bruticus upgrade with what I already have before looking for the Target set on the aftermarket.

Is it going to look like butt, or will it wind up looking ok? I mean, the molds don't have much in common with Vortex, Brawl and Onslaught in the first place. I don't need a slavish homage, just hoping the colors won't look like puke, or worse, G2. :p

Overall it'll probably look alot more brighter and colorful with the Energon figures

I have faith in FansProject. So much so, that I'm finding myself planning a 2010 with more of their products than Hasbro's.

It ought to look alright. I've got the Superlink and ROTF box set Bruticuseseseseses, and I think the FP ones look like they can fit in decently with either. I sort of recall that the Energon ones are kind of like the Superlink ones but a bit brighter, so there should be something salvagable in there. XD

I think it will look better with the Energon molds honestly. You figure that Barricade is closer to Onslaughts g1 colors, and you have a green tank and the one helicopter that is purple and grey, similar to Vortex. That's the set I am putting them with.

One thing I wonder about is that the set comes with a new Bruticus head and requires you swap out the panel with the original head on it, so I wonder about if the panel the new head is connected to will match with both versions of Onslaught

I am one that prefers that Superlink/Energon coloration over the Target exclusives. They've always seemed a lot closer to the homages that inspired them. So I think it would actually look a lot better with SL/Es vs the Target one.

The panel will likely be a darker shade of grey than the energon mold... however, the panel isn't visible in anything but combined mode, and a little darker grey around the 'collar' wouldn't look bad at all.

If anyone really wants the repaint set, they're on clearance up here in Canada. Shoot me a PM and I can snag you one.

The neck plate will probably be excusable. The big hang-up will be with the foot panels. The likelihood is that the wheels are colour-matched to RotF Bruticus, so in vehicle mode, that's going to look off.

I'm hoping it'll look nice. I feel like going into storage and digging out Energon Barricade, since he's more Onslaught colored than ROTF Onslaught.

...and yeah, I just pre-order'd Munitioner and Explorer, too.

    Barricade will look fine.

Kickback and Blight are both green tanks right? (I have the SL version so not sure if there is a color difference) so you'll have a green tank for Brawl.

Only problem is the choppers. You have one that's orange and one that's purple and grey. The purple and grey one would be the one to go with imo. Easy choice there. Only problem is there is a little too much purple on there for me.

The Target set has the best Vortex, but that set up should still look good.

I think it'll look fine. As Orio pointed out, the only one that will really stand out is Vortex. Here's hoping we get full color combined pics soon, that will answer a lot of the questions about the combiner add-on pieces.

Agreed. The Target versions had the best Silverbolt and the best Vortex. The others in the sets were could be easily replaced with the SL/E versions.

I think i'm going to go after the ROTF Bruticus set because of that Vortex. Right now I own Energon Barricade, Green Brawl (Kickback?) and the red/orange Vortex. I couldn't find blackout (Blue purple) for a price lower than 20 bucks.

So if anyone needs some limbs for this set, send me a PM and you can have this stuff at retail plus shipping.

Don't know if this helps. But here's a pic of my Bruticus with Yourreflections upgrade custom kit. Energon Blackout works well for it imo. :)

I'm currently curious about how Energon Barricade will look with the Target Bruticus limbs... I have Barricade and the Target set... I'll have to see about putting that together... cause the FP Vortex and Swindle look too good to not be getting.

    EDIT:

Guess I should have read the full thread first... whoops.
