According to the link Saunders is co-producing the pilot so it’s not like what they where going to do with Spaced and have no one from the original show involved. And it’s just a pilot at this point anyway. Scores of pilots are made that never get picked up.

And hopefully this will be another one. What a fucking stupid idea, Fox; concentrate on finding your own decent comedy instead of screwing up everyone else's.

Americanized versions of British comedy shows almost never work. (The Office being a notable exception) It usually consists of replacing accents, removing all subtlety and having the cast as either ill-fitting big name actors or small-time BAD actors.

*sigh* what's wrong with just showing Ab-Fab as it was? Not enough profit I imagine

Okay, so maybe I was venting more than being realistic, but it's still dumb to redo Absolutely Fabulous.

Agreed. It's like Doctor Who; so British that it just can't be transferred like that.

To be fair they can't really make it much worse than it already is.

To be honest I wouldn't have minded if they'd become a hit with the execs, it could've continued the hilarious misunderstanding most of the North American audience had whereby they thought Robert Llewellyn wasn't british. :lol

WHile it wasn't set in the 70s, I keep thinking of Cold Feet when I think of this.

All in the Family? That's the biggie. Sanford and Son, too.

Lesser shows that did stay on the air a few years (and I can't speak to the qualityof the BBC originals):

    Three's Company
    Dear John
    Too Close For Comfort

While that may not seem like much, given just how many pilots are made in a given year, and how few ever make it on the air, let alone a second season, and how relatively few of those are based on BBC sitcoms... well, its not as bad as you think.

But that's EXACTLY what they did with the Office. Save Steve Carrell. Whom I will never forgive for being involved with such a shitty (=not funny) sitcom.
