Hey all, I watched the Transformers Movie that came out in the 80s-90s and something got me wondering. How come the Dinobots consisted of four members in the movie? I thought the Autobots built five dinobots and in the movie, they clearly depict only four of them fighting Devastator and Unicron. What gives? If anyone can give me a question, please reply back. Sorry if this is question has been asked before. Thanks....

They probably thought that five was too many for the scenes with the Dinobots in. Snarl made cameo appearances though.

And he was added into all the Dinobot scenes in the IDW movie adaptation.

Snarl was planned to be in the movie, but he demanded a percentage of the movie profits. Because he refused to back down, his part was reduced to a small cameo.

Hmmm..... I only remember seeing Grimlock, Slag, Sludge, and Swoop. Never in the movie did I see Snarl. :peoples:  Yeah, animators made a lot of mistakes in the movie for sure :redface2:

During the cleanup at autobot city Snarls head appears in the foreground for a split-second. Then when the new Decepticons are attacking, Snarl runs away with everyone else, it's directly before Magnus says: "To the shuttles!".

He is seen again, but only visible with freeze frame, during the exterior view of the Quintesson ship arriving on junkion carrying Hot rod and co., Snarls distinctive Stego tail decoration is seen in the window breifly.

Like I said, only visible with freeze frame.

Thats what the MOK DVD feature said! :lol

You have to watch carefully, sometimes in slow motion:

Snarl appears twice in Autobot City as a Dino, one is just a "head shot"

Snarl appears as a robot through the window of the Quintesson ship landing on Junkion.

I seem to partly remember a fourth apearance, but I can't think of it right now. I'll try to research it when I get home tonight.

Watch the new DVD with the Fan Commentary. Snarl's appearances are pointed out.

Here ya go - there's a picture at this link as well. Snarl is pretty visible (although briefly) if you know all the places to look:

If you listen to the fan commentary on the 20th Anniversary DVD, Paul clearly points out when you can see Snarl.

    They addressed this at www.melovegrimlock.com

Kup gave him some expired energon treats.

Now if all five dinobots were in the battle, they probally would have fared better against devs.

Oh, if you looked closely in the scene where Ultra Magnus gets the Autobots ready to board the shuttles in order to head for Cybertron, you'll catch a couple brief glimpses of Snarl right with the gang. It was assumed he stayed behind in Autobot City to help clean up the mess the Decepticons made. At least that's according to the guys who did up the fun facts for the anniversary edition of the DVD.

Now, in all seriousness, the explanation I read was that the animation model for Snarl had gotten lost. They only had a static model of him, hence his brief appearances.
