Hi all. Yesterday while walking his dog, my Dad found a broken Ipod Video Nano on the ground. The screen was smashed to hell, and when we plugged it in, nothing happened. Obviously toast.
Dad suggested taking it to the local Apple store to get it replaced.
I went to Apple today, and they said the Genius Bar can take care of it by appointment. I made the appointment for tomorrow.

The Apple store said that I didnt need a reciept or anything, but they can look up the serial number. That said, i really dont want a Nano as I already have an Ipad, Iphone, and 160GB Ipod. When they look up the number, they will find the original owners information assuming its been registered.

What do you think will happen? Can they find the original owners info and then send them a free replacement? It would be nice to see them ship the owners a brand new one out of the blue.

I am sure the original owner is upset for losing it anf would be pleasently surprised to get a brand new one from nowhere.

That or the owner threw the damn thing out the car window.

Which is even better if it shows up back on their doorstep brand new.

What if it's not registered, what do you think Apple would do then?

Well, the one we found is toasted and does not work, plus there is no obvious numbering on it. So I am not even sure how they would find the number.

I found a broken Vanilla Ice CD in my yard once.

It didn't have a serial number on it, so I just threw it away.

Inside physically, or digitally? I did find a number on the inside by pulling the shattered screen back. Was already broken and easy to peal, but not sure if its the serial number or the screens part number.

If digitaly inside, I doubt they can get access to it.

Still, Id likethe owners to get it back.

If it did have a serial number and wasn't broken it still would have been thrown away.

Truth. Ipods, as expensive as they are, are still disposable items. Especially older items.

It's one of those things where if you lose it, you try to find it for a week, and buy a new one without a second thought.

First generation though. I think this is the 6th generation with video. It's the tiny little square one that attaches to your clothing and has a screen on it. We'll see what happens today. Will report back.
