What with my Year 12 Formal rapidly approaching, I was wondering what kind of antics some of you guys got up to at your school dances?

Feel free to share embarrassing crap.

I'll be honest, I didn't go. I was way to cheap to spend my money on that.

I saw no reason to spend several hundred dollars for the "distinction" of spending yet another day with people I genuinely hated.

My date and I skipped the prom in favor of an evening and a night of hotel room debauchery. We're married now.

I can't really remember much about it.
The bits I do remember are tequila, cigars and eating Rice Krispies at someone's house with vodka instead of milk.

Oh yeah, and the biology teacher being there to continue his 'friendship' with one of the girls from my year.

Does stopping your brother from sneaking into Boys and Girls club dances count?

Or skipping a dance to go play some chess instead?

I remember wearing an overly formal tuxedo, and my date wore purple jelly shoes that purposely didn't match her dress. I remember us taking her 6th-generation Mercury Cougar to the prom instead of the limo the rest of our friends crammed into. I remember slow-dancing with my friend Dan, and although we were both giggling a bit at the time, it seemed perfectly normal and wonderful. I remember getting rip-roaring drunk on Bacardi and fruit punch at the sleep-over after party.

I had the Prom/date from hell.

Weeks before Prom I asked this girl I liked to go. She was kind of hesitant because she had a boyfriend, but still wanted to go. She said she'd get back to me and eventually said she would. Well, she flaked out on me at the last minute.

Luckily though (or so I thought), about a week before, I was at a party at a co-worker's apartment. I was talking about how I thought that this girl would flake out on me. Well the guy's wife hadn't been to Prom, and us all being drunk and/or high, she said she'd go with me if she flaked out.

I was able to get all the stuff for Prom early enough even at the last minute, but the choice I made was pretty bad. Instead of sticking with traditional black tie on the tux, I decided to match my new date's dress. My cummerbund and tie turned out to be this electric-pink color. Pretty awful. We ended up taking my dad's Oldsmobile.

So when we get to the dance, held in a hotel, everything is ok, pics, food, music, friends, etc. But when it came time to dance, my date only wanted to dance to the fast songs, so I was pretty much the only one not dancing during the slow songs. I'm not sure why, but it bugged me a lot and left me a little bitter. ...but wait, there's more...

She wanted to leave to go to this party, I wasn't having a great time so I obliged. We start heading out and as I'm driving up this hill, I pass through a shadow of a tree that's cast from the street light. At the last second, I see this big object in the middle of the road. I didn't have enough time to stop of swerve around it, so I end up running right over the top of it. It hit hard too. Turns out it was a damn wheel in the road. A rim. There was a supermarket at the top of the hill, so I pull in. As I got out of the car, I see this very noticeable trail of fluid that I just created in the parking lot from the street, as it continues to drain from the car. This was around 11 p.m.

I called my dad to come help, he was pissed to say the least but since I was still on this date, he brought my sister's 1960-something Plymouth Valiant and took his car home. We continue on to this "party", which turned out to be a bunch of burnouts shooting up, doing shots, and smoking whatever in a crappy house. There was no music and the beer was warm. Anyway, my friends and I decide that this place was definately not the place to be so we decide to head back to the hotel to see if there were any good Prom-hotel parties going on. I tell my date, but she gets all mad and said she wanted to stay there. Fuck it, we left her.

So I'm sitting there without a date. We decided to call this girl that we all knew, a friend (actually the friend who took my virginity), and sneak her out of her house to go to the hotel.

As we get back to the hotel, Prom is over. The problem is that none of us knew anyone who was having a party or who had a room. Of course the front desk wasn't going to help out with that either. So there we stood. Defeated.

We head back to the car and the fucking thing won't start. It's about 1 a.m. by this time. We end up calling my friend's dad to come give us a jump (since mine already came out the one time) and all but end up passing out on top of each other. Tom and his date in the back, and me and this girl Mona, in the front. The best part of the night was that in waiting for the dad to show up, Mona started sucking on my thumb. A lot. More would of happen if we were alone, but as I said, it was a shitty night.

The car starts right up as soon as Tom's dad arrives, and he decided to go with him. None of us trusted the car, so I ended up taking Mona home and just calling it a night when I dropped her off.

The next day after school, my dad tells me I owed him $80 for a new transmission pan, apparently I tore a gash the entire length of it. He was also pissed because there were some fresh abrasions underneath the frame from when I hit a dip in the road....

Later at work, my coworker (my date's husband) approached me, ready to kick my ass. He was pissed that I just left her at the party and furthermore that I wanted to go back to the hotel. She thought that I meant so we can get a room, I'm guessing to screw. So of course that's what he thought too... I managed to smooth it over with him and explain what happened. He was a little less pissed, but it turned out alright. He didn't beat me up. But I had a shitty Prom.

    There you go.

I remember going in the limo, I remember wearing the stupid tux, I remember having to drive to everyone's house in the limo so the parents can take pictures, I remember trying to impress this girl by pretending to be a vegetarian. We were all suppose to go to this restaurant after the prom, but the limo driver took us to the wrong place, and the actual place was closed by the time we got there, so we ended up eating at a Howard Johnsons. Then we all went to a fancy hotel suite and I recall getting wasted on champagne.

Sure sounds a hell of a lot more fun than hanging out with people I would rather kill.

As a girl, I felt I had the right to go to the prom without paying. So when I was asked I told him that he was paying. Chivalry is alive and well. :D  So buy your girl's ticket. :p

Other than that, we decided to do the Duct Tape Prom Dress Contest. We lost badly, but it was a lot of fun. The theme of the Prom was Africa...yeah it was lame...but we modeled our outfits after African animals. My dress had a peacock tail thing and my date had a zebra-tux with a zebra-head-top-hat.

Then after we all went to my friend's gated community and snuck into the pool and swam for a bit and ordered 2:00am pizza delivery. It was awesome until we found out a bunch of cars were stolden from the prom including our friend Terrence. So that was a major buzz-kill.

But then I was at Taco-bell with Terrence a few months later and he got a call that his car had been found, so it was all good in the end.

Prom can be fun if you make it fun. Just remember that.

I never went either. Nor to a single dance in either junior high or high school. For prom my parents would have sprung though.

The only school dance I ever went to was in 7th grade. After the dance this local pizza joint decided to give away free pizzas for those who had attended. So they actually bused the dancers to the resteraunt from the Jr. high school.

Unfortunately there wasn't much supervision and things got WAY out of hand. Somebody had gone and dumped all the Parmesan cheese shakers onto the tables along with the pepper. This place also had some games and a few had gotten broken. Someone had taken all the skeeballs and hid them throughout the restaurant and a pinball game was trashed. There was also a lot of underage drinking involved and I think I remember a couple making out in the bathroom. It was a true disaster, I didn't have any fun and vowed to never attend another dance which I kept. As for the pizza joint it actually banned the Jr. high school from doing any functions with them and because of all the vandalism it eventually closed a few years after the dance.
