Came across this on Hisstank. Thought some of you may want to see this. FORM 1: An affordable, professional 3D printer by Formlabs — Kickstarter
Stereolithography printing looks very promising. The B9creator (www.b9creator.com) is also an 'affordable', kickstarter-based printer. I thought I read that they would be able to sell the kits without the LCD projector, which should save some cash if you already have one or can get one cheap. But both options are about $2500 and the resin/epoxy is like $100+/liter to like $275/gal. Just as anything, as demand increases, prices will become more affordable. So in the coming years, I can see these things at $1000 with resin at a reasonable price and being something that people will be using at home instead of Shapeways or the like. Similar to the explosion of the 3rd Party scene over the past few years, I can see this making a huge impact on the customizing world. I'd also think that 3-d scanning might come down along with it, so people would be able to start scanning and repro-ing their own parts. Exciting times, I'll tell you that!
