Ok, so I'm not entirely sure if this would go here since starwars seems to span toys, games, books, comics, and movies, but I'll ask this here since it started in the movies.

Anyway, I'm curious if anyone knows if force lighting is something only sith use or if it's just not used often by Jedi? From what I've seen in the films and in the games the only ones who use it are starkiller, dooku, palpatine, and that's it.
But the thing about that is I don't think that dooku and starkiller were sith in the sense that anakin became a sith and palpatine were sith. In neither case did their eyes get that discolored yellow iris like anakin did towards the end of episode 3 or palpatine always seems to have as teh emperor. I think even darth maul had that. I think dooku and starkiller are more 'dark jedi' than sith it seems (though from what I understand there is no actual sith anymore, and the sith like palpatine and maul were just really strong with the dark side, but claming to be sith as a way to claim some sort of connection to the once powerful sith that used to exist).

So then is it something that sith use exclusively, and starkiller and dooku are sith? or is it something else?

Dooku was. He became one the second he killed Silfo Dias. Starkiller...well he has been trained for a good deal of his life to be a Sith so while he hadn't been knighted a Sith I would consider him very close.

It's not restricted to dark-siders. Jedi and other light-siders who are strong of will and character CAN learn this power without falling to the dark side, but its use is apparently always viewed as inherently corrupting, and is therefore shunned by most Jedi.

Didn't Yoda use something like force lightning in the second Starwars movie?

I'm pretty sure this. I think Luke learns it to in the books after RotJ during his short apprenticeship with the Emperor.

wow, that clears it up pretty well then actually. Thanks for posting that.

It's interesting to know that they both can use it

Nope, he deflected it, caught it and absorbed it, but he didn't use it.

Personally, I think the use of Force Lightning has become played out. It was badass when the Emperor used it, because we hadn't seen it before, but now it seems everybody and their Padawan can pull it off. Not cool anymore. I think it should be strictly limited to the upper echelon of Sith, since I truly believe it to be an evil maneuver.

Movie-grade Dark Side bores the hell out of me personally and I find it annoying that allot of EU material doesen't go any further. A bit of lightning and some choking seems pretty amateur when DE, TOTJ and KOTOR have shown that its capable of some seriously unholy stuff if truely mastered.

I thought it was a perfect waste of his character, honestly. Maybe if he'd lived after turning from the Dark Side and had to, yanno, live with his actions, it'd been cooler. Vader-rip-off was meh.

:lol  Force lighting is exclusive to the dark side. I almost though that mind powers were the things exclusive to jedi but I see that Darth Vader can use it as well. XD I think masters of the force like Yoda are the only people who can deflect it. YODA RULES!!!
