    What's with all these stupid frigging adds for movies that say "for your consideration: this movie, which we think you should nominated for these awards!"

    That's ridiculous. If the Academy or whoever else wants to nominate you, they'll nominate you. I'm sure they've all seen the movie. So stop shoving it in their faces and telling them how good you think you are and what you think you deserve. If I were voting, seeing adds like that would instantly make me not want to vote for those movies.

    Movies come out at different points throughout the year. Some studios want to make sure that the Academy members remember them (a lot of movies come out each year). And it's not really "shoving it in their faces", is it?

    It's completely justified, considering 90%+ of winning films are ones that came out in December. And kind of ineffective for the same reason.
