See, that title's a pun. You'll see why in a minute.

Here's the thing, I have a friend at work and she's a good chum. She also seems to attract the attentions of various fellows like ants to honey. She's an utter hopeless flirt. I however, am not attracted to her that way. I'm in a relationship and we share a strictly platonic relationship. I don't need that kind of complication. We were talking about that today; seems each day she has some new development in her complicated love life and how of all the boys she knows I don't persue her or even have an interest in her beyond friendship.

It's also her birthday, so on a lark, I wrote her a poem. It's kinda tongue in cheek. Since my Transformers inspired version of the song 'Hey There, Delilah' went over so well with some of you earlier this week, I thought I'd post it here. Enjoy!

I won't succumb to juicy wiles
Should they come at me from miles
Or from just across my desk
    Involving regions of the chest
You can show a little leg
You can try and make me beg
But I'm immune to all seduction
    There's been significant reduction
In chatting up and turning on
    All temptation's up and gone
Flagrant flirts or fuss or flatter
    Or blunt advances, doesn't matter
A naughty smile, a hungry stare
    They won't get you anywhere
With me, but maybe other boys
Are weaker to your sexy ploys
I'm good at playing hard to get
    Even if your t-shirt's wet
I have my male will, no fear
Say, is it getting hot in here?

Writing a big long poem about how she doesn't do anything for you.

    ...

    Nope, I don't get it.

Good on you! : ) Great that you're making things clear to her.

So you have this very attractive female friend,

to whom you are not sexually attracted,

and you write good-natured yet snarky poems gently chiding her how all guys except for you are attracted to her?

I'm sorry, this all just seems awfully familiar for some reason.

I don't get it either. Doesn't seem like a good idea to me, unless you are just trying to show off your "skills" to her or something.

Oh my gosh. Okay guys, seriously. My point was that I was hoping you'd get a kick out of the poem. A guy can be friends with a good looking female friend and not want to sleep with her. I am not Harry, she is not Sally.

Maybe cause you lack context you're thinking I'm looking for something from her? We're friends. She has a handful of guys doing somersaults over her and I was giving her some good natured grief about it. Making fun mostly. We were talking this morning that I was utterly resistant to her 'wiles' which was we get on so well. This is what spawned the poem. Also, it was her birthday and i didn't get her a card. There's no message, there's no feelings. She knew where it was coming from and thought it was a riot.

I doth protest too much maybe, but all I was doing was showing off my clever rhyme for you guys. I'm in a relationship with someone I love very much. There is absolutely no ulterior motive.

The point has been, sadly, missed. I think I need to go write a poem about how I feel about that.

It's true! I'm too old and too cheap to have an affair.

Well I thought it was funny, and I understand that you can be friends with a chick and not want to do her. Me however, I'm somewhat the opposite in that I can be friends with a chick and not want to do her, but I'll still flirt and joke like I do.

It's a very well written little poem and I always thought things you create yourself are more meaningful then a piece of cardboard with a mass produced messege on it...unless it was really funny

I thought your poem was a way cooler "gift" than a $10 gift certificate at The Bay.
