How much exactly are Boxsets worth? I typed the same thing into Google and saw some sites selling them for $700 upwards

The sets are worth every penny. 2006 is an awesome set (even though I don't own it), 2007 is awesome, and 2008 is a cool execution of an interesting concept.

I agree, cybertron versions of Awesome Beast Wars characters! Classic Seekers! Evil Prime! All presented very well with plenty of background story. I only hope they can continue to provide great ideas. The 2005 set was kinda lame and IMO not as much thought was put into it. The only neat ideas from that year were the inclusion of Classic Ironhide and Ratchet. Overall not a great boxset. I am still hoping they come up with a boxed combiner set.

Wasn't the '05 set kind of put together fairly last minute (so to speak)? Wasn't that where Fun Publications took things over? I can't remember.

Hey, I love Deathsauras from the 2005 set. It's pretty rare we get a remake of a JPN exclusive G1 character...

    Yes and yes.

There was some talk as to whether there would even be a convention that year as things were seemingly done very last minute.

I can't recall the actual details, though, since I was distracted by passing my finals at the time!

Yes I believe Sol Fury is correct. 2005 is the first year that Fun Pubs ran the convention. My understanding is there was very little time from FP obtaining the rights to do a TF fan convention/club to when it was held (6-7 months I think). Rumor had it that they already had what would be the 2005 set already designed when they pitched their proposal to Hasbro.
