Do you stick with E-Bay in the privacy of your own home or are you daring and not afraid to purchase a robot for yourself out in public (Toys R Us, WalMart, etc.)

Someone started a thread in the Fuzzy entitled "You're not 13 anymore."

Just curious if you'd feel ashamed and/or embarrassed to go into a toy store with the possibility of adults watching you (buying toys for their kids) thinking, "That person's immature. How old is this guy?"

Lol I have never had any problem with hunting in public. I would much rather pay retail for something vs goin on ebay and potentially getting waaay overcharged for the same thing. Although there are some things I HAVE to buy online, I prefer the thrill of the hunt in the wild :)

Buying TFs at retail has never bothered me, though when I was younger (18/19) I got back into Lego and I was a little self-conscious buying that at first.

If people stare, i just stare back. If they've got something smart to say,i've probably got something equally smart to offer.

Retailers aren't going to refuse my money. They need it.

That implies you must care a bit then, if you could actually care less than you do now?

I agree. But the thing is - that only works the first dozen times you go in the toy store and straight to one specific section.

Even if they know exactly why I'm there... so what? I collect Transformers. I don't have anything to be ashamed about.

If you want to get technical about it - I feel worse for the people WORKING at a TOY store. But then, why should they care what I think about where they work?

I think most people assume I am buying toys for my kids. I don't try to hide it though so if they ever asked I would say it was for me.

I love Toys. I am not going to stop doing something I love (that doesn't hurt anyone) because of what other people might think.

Honestly, The type of people that would judge you for loving to do something are the type of people that lack things to love.

I make trips to toys stores every week and I'm in my thirties. I'm not fooling myself: I'm just not good-looking enough for the people at the store to remember me for more than about 10 seconds after I have paid for my toys and left their store. I'm pretty sure they couldn't care less if I bought a Barbie, a Transformer or a Lego set. Besides that, it's not like I have an opinion of the other adults in the toy section. Lastly, I too can't care less what people who I'm not bothering in any way think about me.

Who gives a crap what people think? I'm there on my own agenda, they're there on their own agenda. If they have a problem with what I spend my money on, then good for them.

    This ^

I don't actually have any kids, but I'm of that age now where I guess people just assume that's what I'm doing.

I think the fact that I'm usually wearing a shirt with some sort of cartoon character on it when I'm shopping pretty much gives my agenda away! Honestly, we're not as secretive as some of us may think. Toy collecting is becoming so much more mainstream that I think most people don't really care when they see a grown man or woman walking up to a register with an armload of toys and a big goofy grin on their face!
