I am not sure if this is a question you can ask under forum rules but... What do you guys do for a living? How did you decide what it was you wanted to do? I am 28 and while I work it is just a job to pay bills, just a retail clerk. I have never had any idea what I wanted to do, but I know I would at least like to feel like I am contributing to my future. Feel free to answer all or part of the question, or just tell me to mind my own business.
What if you were someone in a church or someone in politics? Would you be able to say then? I work for government.... Chuck
i kinda fell into graphic design. i had no idea what i wanted to do when i was 16 (when we go to college in the uk). but i liked art and i got a work placement in a design agency. i happened to be the only person in the company that knew how to use flash, and they paid me to do something. 12 years later and i'm still doing pretty much the same thing :/
I am a carpenter/scaffolder. While I recall swearing up and down as a teen that I'd never touch the trades, it has turned out pretty awesome. Good pay and benefits, pension, good brothers to work with. Except for the douchebag in my carpool who sings to the music on the radio and drives like a mad man it's pretty awesome, at least I'll be going to school for scaffolding next week so I won't have to deal with that guy anymore. Plus there's nothing like hanging off of 2 inch aluminum tubes over 100' of the ground! It may not be what I had wanted to do, but it's pretty good and I still get to dabble in what I love to do which is writing.
Always knew that I wanted to be in either the movie SFX industry or the comics industry, was going to attend a trade school (Joe Kubert School in Dover, NJ.) for penciling, but fell into computer coloring instead. 12 years later, I'm still doing it and loving every bit of it.
I'm a graphic designer. Been at the same place for 13 and a half years. Spent time before that as a bar back, and grew up working in my dad's body shop.
I'm a technical trainer in a call center. It's not exactly where I pictured myself, but the money is good and I met my fiance here so I'm glad I put in my application!
I'm an office manager for a small business. Organize orders, do invoicing, pay bills, make deliveries when I need to...not at all what I want to do but it pays the mortgage. I also teach drum lessons when I have time, and I instruct the Boise State University Drumline in the fall.
Thought this was done before... Software Engineer for a UAV company. UAV currently are in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc...
I'm a Registered Nurse. Started out as a nursing assistant and went from there. My mom is a RN so it was kinda in the family. Funny thing is I went to Nursing school with my twin brother.
In the early morning (4-8AM) I work freight at Home Dept (mainly for the benefits and exercise). Then my normal job is managing a church and rental properties (oddly, they are tied together)
I'm a school bus driver. Not quite what I had planned on, but it pays the bills. Started doing that after spending almost 2 years as a car salesman at several dealerships. (that job I really liked)
I'm the store manager of a nationwide retail chain (I just had my 10 year anniversary with the company June 12). I obtained a management and marketing degree in college and new I wanted to be in some form of management. Retail just seemed to fit me best.
I meandered through an engineering degree to wind up in architecture. It seems to be a good field for someone like me who can't figure out whether to be a right brainer or left brainer.
I work with kids and adults who are developmentally disabled (MR, Autism, etc) and we help them with life building skills, community interaction, and some volunteering. I am also responsible for planning activities for the next month, assisting other staff with paperwork stuff, which came with a bit of a pay increase too, which is cool. But yeah, I'm pretty much the lead guy for our day program.
