In the art, Shocky's chest is smaller and embedded within the alt more, giving the impression of a windshield/cockpit and thus actual vehicle of some sort. In the toy, Shocky's chest is larger and kinda hovering over the main barrel section, giving the impression of a scope and thus a ray-gun-type weapon. At least, that's what I get from it. Either way it's still a flying gun.
Y'know, I thought Shockwave was already a cybertronian gun. What in the name of Christ is this thing?
Skinny hollow legs, lack of height and funky alt-mode aside - he looks pretty cool. I'll be getting him to add to my Classics.
Was thinking of getting this, Ultra Magnus, and Bruticus to display with my WFC stuff, but after seeing the height...... Maybe I'll just be getting Bruticus.
I'll be getting him, but I am more than a bit dissapointed in how small, lanky and hollow he is. I just wish the foc line fell more into the scale of the deluxe classics. WFC soundwave has been a great stand in for the classics line for me, however I just can't see shocky filling that classics hole. All that said, I do like the figure He'll probably end up on one of my miscelaneous shelves edit- And thanks for the review tcracker!
I'm going to try and not worry about the size too much. Sure, he should be massive and imposing, a giant space ray gun on par with Megatron in terms of toy scale. But at least we're getting his fearsomeness in a decently updated mode. Thankfully his G1 mode wasn't a realistic weapon, so this fits his personality and character history quite nicely.
Is there anyway for Shockwave to be held in vehicle mode like a giant gun by another character? I saw on a youtube review where it looked to be a peg on the underside of him in vehicle mode and it got me wondering if it was possible.
I have to say, I LOVE the look of this guy. His design really evokes his G1 character while being modern-looking at the same time. Also, I love the way his gun integrates into his alt-mode. And since I don't yet have ANY Shockwave toys, he's a definite buy for me.
Alternate configuration i did by folding down the wings n storing the gun muzzle at the back: Review: His bot mode is B plus at most, mainly due to dinky size. His alt mode is okay but i give it a C: mostly locks up nicely but i dont really like the look of it. Just pointing out in the OP that the thrusters can be properly angled to the 'bridge' - the elbow has a double joint thats easy to miss. Overall a B. Nice design, decent paint apps. That said this design does give me a jonesing for the dotm version which i passed on, that one seems more imposing, even if i dont dig the movie look.
Agreed. Although it has that movie vibe (of course), DOTM Shockwave includes the power cable that the FOC version does not have, its alt mode is at least as good (although arguably not great), and it's a big, solid figure.
DotM Shocky just doesn't evoke the G1-vibe that this guy does. DotM Shocky can't really hang on a classics shelf IMHO, but this guy can. I had the movie fig in my hands but returned him because of that reason. Plus his cyber-tank mode REALLY didn't do it for me. This onle "seems" better for some reason.
Funny, as a kid I never liked gun arms and preferred two hands. But when it comes to Shockwave I'm really glad that he has the option to have a gun arm. Shockwave really needs this.
FOC Shockwave should have been put next to a Classics seeker mold for true size comparison. Many of us will be putting Shockwave with our classics.
Very excited for this figure to begin with, and the gun arm just solidified it. As lanky and small as he may be, I really like the robot mode design in and of itself.
Thanks, this just sealed the deal. Wasn't keen on the wings but with the gun arm and no wings, Shockwave now has the right look for Classics. Nice.
