And believe me, we are better without the amount of whining in the first one, it was epic and will be remembered for ages, even used as reference to other fandoms.

No it wasn't. Every fandom out there gets up in arms in a retarded way about pointless bullshit when their film gets turned into a movie. The X-Men fans have 'em, the Star Trek fans have 'em, the DC comics fans have 'em. It's an inevitable part of The Fandom Equation.

Give it time, we haven't really gotten any good info yet. Once they announce Sunstreaker/Sideswipe turn into an ice cream truck, Soundwave is the little bot attacking the car and Arcee turns into an Abrams Tank with flames and spikes and calls everyone "Dog" we'll have enough stuff to complain about :thumbs2:

Then, Hell would freeze over, Prime would get a sex change and Megatron would be his(her) baby's daddy.

i thought the flames were a little silly, but they still looked awesome. i just fail to understand the whole fanboys getting angry about it. It honestly doesn't make sense to me, and here's why:
When RID came out, did everyone complain about Optimus being a firetruck without any blue on him? and what about that G2 (i think) Optimus that was red+white and fired air missiles? did the fanboys go crazy then? And what about war within Optimus? He didn't look anything like a flatnose. So why now? Why did they suddenly decide to lose their minds? Because the movie that came to theatres didn't have their favorite character exactly the way they remembered him when they were little? That sounds like a stupid enough reason to complain, since they didn't complain for 20 years prior about all the other primes. But what's really stupid is that they DID get that big screen movie with their hero exactly the way they wanted him, back in '86. So they need to shut the hell up. It's my turn to be catered to, you whiny 30-somethings!

Not really. Reading most of the whining about it was like getting eye-surgery with a pick-axe via the nose.

    SLASH-FIC, NOW!

With the except of a few loudmouths I generally found the bitching and moaning during the first movie to be quite entertaining. Especially since most of those same people were (at least partially) won over once the movie came out.

As for the flames on Prime, they didn't draw attention to them in the movie so they don't really bother me. Besides, the truck looks cool as hell. :)

I simply thought then and think now, that they just look tacky on a character I've always seen as rather regal and noble.

Seemed more of a Rodimus than an Optimus style of paint.

Oh wait people actually cared about that?

    OH YEAH!

Funny, I'm completely numb to there ever being flames at this point...

Yes it was, just looks at what's going on with the GI Joe fans, they changed the look on the characters and everybody started whining and comparing it to what happened with transformers.

I consider myself to be a pretty moderate fan. I've always been in favour of more change and diveristy in the franchise, and I usually end up supporting new concepts that many more conservative fans dislike. I don't think any series is perfect and I'm not 100% pro-movie or 100% anti-movie.

Still, I believe (and will always believe) that flames on Optimus Prime was (and is) a bad idea.

No, I'm not a G1 purist. No, I'm not a raging anti-Bay lunatic. I quite enjoyed the film, but it wasn't perfect. If I had been in charge, I would have done alot of the things Bay did, like make Prime a long-nose truck, give the robot designs a very alien look, etc. - but as a fan of the series, I would not have put flames (or a mouth) on Optimus Prime.

I've noticed lately how fans tend to paint other fans in absolutes: You either love absolutely everything about the movie, or hate absolutely everything about it. Yes, I loved the movie and I'm looking forward to the next one. does that mean the first one was perfect? No. Does that mean that the things that were wrong the first time won't be wrong in the sequel? No. Looking back, people can ridicule those who bitched and moaned, but I think all the complaining probably saved the movie from being much worse than it is.

People don't realise how much worse the film could have been, the same way they don't realise how much better it could have been.

That's probably because the Joe fans are so closely interknit with the Transformers fans. Other fandoms may generalize that Transformers fans got uppity about Bay's direction, but the Star Wars fans could just as easily point out that Star Trek fans got uppity when Nemesis was released, or vice versa with Lucas's prequels...the fandoms know each other, but this bitching and moaning is a regular occurance. The Transformers fans pissing their pants about the first film is nothing momentous that'll go down in history, it's just...nerds bitching and moaning about stuff they like, as per usual.

Why do the flames matter? All that was going on inside my head was "OMFG!!!!! IT'S PRIME IN 3D AND HE'S FKING HUGE ON BIG SCREEN!!!"

    Then it was.
"OMFG!!! HE'S TRANSFORMING!!! EVERYTHING IN MY LIFE WAS LEADING UP TO THIS!!!"

    Then it was.
"OMG!!! HE'S EVEN BIGGER ON IMAX SCREEN!!!"

Well... The second to last sentence was exaggerated, but I really didn't notice the flames. All I saw was a freakin huge Optimus Prime, voiced by the legendary Peter Cullen, in his glorious 3D... glory. :D

I'm not an absolute raging fan girl, but I am a fan.
The flames didn't bother me in the least, for me they helped break up and shape out his armor panels.
Also i hardly noticed them at the time... was drooling over the 3D work and studying how well they moved and how incredibly agile they were for being such massive creatures, especially Optimus Prime. (I'm currently at a specialised Uni learning 2D/3D animation, movie and game prinicples).

I personally loved their designs because of how completely alien they looked.

On Prime having a mouth... put simply it works in the context of a well readable character (uni again hehe). Because he needs to beable to get across what he is saying/emotions without relying entirely on the voice work and body language like they pretty much did in the G1 series. Also makes him more approachable.

Word! Couldn;t agree more (FYI, I'm 31) And just to add something, not only has he been different types of trucks, he was also a FUCKING gorilla!!!!! Hardly seems like some details on the paint job can be worse than that!
