Octopi and the rest of the cephalopods are fun to watch. I think it's a species of squid that can show a courtship display on one side of its body, to the female, while leaving a plain pattern on the other side to make rivals think it isn't doing anything. I actually wouldn't mind working with them, if I got into marine bio.
That sort of behaviour is shown in this video the male squid keeps his normal colour facing the female while his other side is an aggressive white to keep the competition away.
I watched one of the PBS specials on cephalopods - it was pretty awesome. I had no idea that they could fully change colors (not just "slightly different shades" like some lizards), change patterns, and even imitate different textures. It's crazy. There's also a tiny one that actually walks along the sea floor. Then there's how (at least one type of them) mates - the males just have sperm pouches hanging off of them at all the time. They get close enough to the female after a little bit of a light show, then they grab their pouch and and throw it inside her. It's like..doodely-doo...nothing to see here...BAM PREGNANT HAH GOTCHA!
I knew it! It's coming true just like in that show I mentioned earlier! Head for the hills! No, wait - the hills have trees! Head for the one place they won't be. Into the sea!!! Ew - ocean-going used condom...
