The toys are going to be disappointing. Is Hasbro happy sacrificing their toys in order to make the characters transform with a million steps just for the movie? This is after all still supposed to be a "commercial" to sell the toys.

They are fighting an uphill battle here.

Damn, I just don't know what to make of all this. Should I buy an Evangelion DVD just to get a handle on what to expect?

I love the robots Ive seen as BumbleBee and maybe Megatron but not as traditional Transformers maybe more of Evangeleon, But I want the transforming toy of these, it would be an exercise of creative engineering.

I don't think we should assume it will be impossible for Hasbro to make toys of these just because we don't understand them. They say Hasbro has been working very closely on the designs of the robots. I just can't see the Hasbro guys now going, "oh shit that's right, we have to make toys of these things!". I think the toys may be much closer to the film's Transformers than we believe possible.

I think I've warmed up to the idea that the Transformers' alt modes have character and style as opposed to being dull for the sake of "disguise". The groupshot of vehicles looks like a cool bunch of guys. I think it's going to work.

I'm not sure if many people understand that if you took Bumblebee from the G1 cartoon and put him in the the film, he'd look like a guy in a cardboard costume from an old low-budget sci-fi flick. Or more closely, like a guy in a home-made costume at a Transformers convention.

Looks cool. I can live with the designs since I can accept THIS IS NOT A G1 FILM.

    1. Rachet is yellow. 2. Optimus' flames were the only way to realisticly have both blue and red on the cab. (Or so I've heard)

P.S. Good attitude Grimlock 13, thats exactly what this movie is not. IT'S NOT G1 FOR GOD'S SAKE!!! Sorry, had to get that of my chest.

I got to say i look forward to the inevitable leaked toy protos so we can get anidea of if these will actually work direct to toys, or if they'll be simplified...

    Must... see... in motion!

But, despite everything, I really like what I'm seeing. Cullen is going to kick a lot of ass as that Truck!

Okay, so Transformers is all about change. So, in theory, we should be ready to embrace change. However...

I'm really not sure I like Bumblebee. Maybe because I'm just in a negative mood tonight, but it's kind of grating on me the same way that E.J. Su's Transformers grate on me. Throughout all incarnations of Transformers, even through improving technologies from 1984 (or whenever the original molds were cast) to now, there's always been a certain design aesthetic to them, and an ongoing evolution of that aesthetic. And for the movie, it feels like that aesthetic has been completely thrown away. Of course, I wasn't expecting them to look like their original G1 selves - I was hoping for something better. But this... looks a little too far removed.

Having said that, though, it's been pointed out how much these designs look like the Transtech designs, and I remember how much I loved those designs, and resented being given Car Robots instead. So I guess I should stop being hypocritical, and should learn to love the new design style instead.

And, of course, I should also remember my own words, from elsewhere, and remember that it may just all look seriously kick-ass on the big screen. The X-Men, after all, looked very little like their comic counterparts. There was just enough in their movie designs to resonate, and to help us recognise each of the characters. So hopefully, despite the changed aesthetic ("aesthetic" is clearly my word for the day), there'll be enough visual hints that we'll still recognise the characters.

So, to summarise: Initial negativity, tempered with reason and own past arguments, leading to a return to hopefulness for the finished product. I'm still expecting to be wowed and broke from buying all the toys. :)

Jesus, you never give up, do you? Is there anything you actually LIKE about this movie? Now Bumblebee's SLIGHT (if any) color shift will ruin it? He sure looks yellow to me. And I'm sure people will be really confused as to what they are, cuz ya know, the title of the movie won't give them any hints.:rolleyes2

It's neat how you already hope one movie that isn't made yet is better than this movie that isn't made yet. Did you get an advanced screening or something?

I won't be able to decide on these with tiny camera phone pics. Don't know if I like them. Bumblebee looks tall for a transforming car.

Use of the word "aesthetic" too, don't forget that. I use it a lot myself, and respect those who apply it liberally to their replies. I find its letter and syllable structures aesthetically pleasing to the eyes and ears.

If these get directly translated to toys, imagine the proto mistransforms we'll see. :lol

Why the heck are 5-6 people comparing this to Evangelion when it looks absolutely nothing like it in armor design or overall build?

Maybe it's because everything we G1 fans have seen so far has been shit? (not every G1 fan....ok alrighty) Maybe you can accept some of changes because you like different things, don't knock someone because he doesn't like what he's seen.
