anyone but Robert Englund would ruin this movie, hands down.

If Englund isn't back as Freddy then this movie = FAIL

Predator does not need a reboot (though calling it such may help get it green lit). The "character" works fine, and can be dropped in at any time, in any setting. There is no continuing story or recurring character (ala Alien) so every film is a fresh start. Just make another good Pred movie.

As for Nightmare, I've recently come to realize Englund is replacable. In some ways (blasphemy) I've come to realize he was the problem with the old franchise. I love the character, but the humor got too much, and Englund just lapped it up. Go back and watch the original, and the character is barely recognizable as the quipmaster of later installments. If they were to make a sequel, one with THAT Freddy, then recasting would be unthinkable. But if they want a new direction, with a Freddy that is as terrifying as the one from the first film, then I think a fresh face is needed.

Englund had to work with what the scripts he was given, but if we are on the subject, here is my rating for the series:

    From Best to worst:

    1) Nightmare on Elm Street: Well you can't beat the original.
    2) Nightmare on Elm Street 3 : Wes Craven is back and we get more depth and knowledge about Freddy.
    3) Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The continue to 3.
    4) Wes Craven's New Nightmare : It was good. A new take on Freddy.
    5) Nightmare on Elm Street 2 : Interesting... interesting...
    6) Nightmare on Elm Street 5: Uhm.... Ok....
    7) Freddy Vs. Jason : Meh....
    8) Nightmare on Elm Street 6 : Oh good lord. Who gave Rachel Talaley the director's seat ?

Bollywood? I was unaware that India's film industry was having trouble with remakes...

Unless that was a typo, in that case, consider my facetiousness taken back.

Does this sound to anyone else like a cheap shot at Wes Craven? And he already did this for "Wes Craven's New Nightmare".

I wanna see this done... but please don't half ass it. we need a good director and some decent actors.

To those who say, "If it ain't broke don't fix it". Have you seen the last few Freddy movies? They SUCK. This franchise needs a make over.

Agreed. It's a dumb idea to make it without him and pointless to start over. Most of the people in Hollywood wouldn't know an original idea if it bit them in the ass.

Is Englund even interested in being brought back as Freddy?

I guess I don't understand what the point of remakes are, has Hollywood completely run out of ideas? I mean I can't think of but maybe one or two remakes in the last 5 years that have even been good or decent. Most of them are lousy, bad actors, bad plot, just pointless. I'd rather see a sequel than a remake.

I"ve heard about this first off Robert Englund will always be Freddy. But if they can find an actor that can pull this off then thats great, but I won't watch it because its not my thing.

Robert Englund should be Freddy. If not I will give it a chance and see what happens but I will not hold my breath.

As for him being arrested it was in the Pliot Episode of Freddy's Nightmares.

"The pilot episode was directed by Tobe Hooper, and begins with Freddy Krueger's acquittal of the child-murdering charges due to his officer's lack of reviewing the Miranda warning at the time of Freddy's arrest. A mob of parents eventually corners Freddy in a power plant (his workplace), leading to him being torched by the police officer, dying and gaining his familiar visage."
