ASM Magazine has posted their pics of Toyfair 2007. And in the link below you can see pics of the Transformers chess game

    Link

I looked through the TFW gallery and saw that this pic wasn't there.

I thought it was reported it would be based on the movie. I guess they meant the animated one since I see galvatron.

Wait, shouldn't there be like pawns?

Hmm...I was expecting something more. Kind of disappointed in it.

    Not bad.
Looks like they just stuck the HOC pvc figures to some stands

Chessboards should have the alternating light and dark squares. It's not just decorative - it makes it easier to see the movement of bishops, queens and knights, as well as to plan moves around those pieces.

Additionally, some of the pieces look too large, especially Grimlock. Maybe I'm wrong, but it looks like his tail crosses into the squares behind him.

    prime/megs = kings
    rodimus/galv = queen

    grimlock=knight?

Looks nice, but I hope it's unfinished. As an avid chess player I have to agree that the multi-colored pattern of a chess board isn't just for decor. You need it to help plan your strategy so you can see the movement of the pieces.

All in all, I'll still probably get it if I never use it to play with. The LotR one I own is so much better looking... the figures don't look as cheap as these do either. Personally, I'm waiting for the TF version of RISK and MONOPOLY!

At $200+, I'd DEMAND some use.

This does nothing for me. I was totally pumped about the idea at first, but between the character selections and now the appearance of the board and actual figures, I'll get the movie release and be done with it.

If I wanna make one of these, I'll buy a nice board and a bunch of extra HoCs, then kitbash stands. And I'll still save a chunk.

Wow, 225? What a waste! Thats it then, no way would I ever pay 225 for such a mediocre chess board.

This can not be that one in the BBTS link. There was also mention that there would be a $30 or so chess set released some time this year. If I had to guess, I'd say this is THAT chess set.

If that's the $200+ one, then I think they'll be shocked how few would pick it up.

Unfortunately I have to bounce on the bandwagon of "it's almost cool." It seems a bit rushed, especially with that board they show it on. I kinda get the impression those pieces will be way too big for your average everyday chessboard too.

I was expecting something fancy and overpriced, like pewter-ish figs done in about the same scale as the old rubber "decoys." I'd also be all for just getting the pieces in a nifty little case with no board. You can find some way cool boards in game shops.

I don't think that's the same set, but I could be wrong. Aren't the pieces for the one in the link supposed to be pewter or something? The set shown in the pics in this thread look more like the $30 one shown... of course, I could be wrong. Maybe Defuzz could tell us the price at least sense he's been working on it?

Looks like HOC figures on a stand, I was expecting pewter figures designed to look like actual chess pieces. Pass.
