This is my 1st attempt at customizing and turning Acid Storm into Thundercracker since he's a bit too pricey at this moment.

Here are before/prep pics. Wish me luck.

I would strongly suggest you find out where all the rub points are first. There's quite a few on these seekers in particular but they are easy to get rid of. You will want to invest in a pin punch, 600 grit sand paper, and exacto blade, some primer paint (prolly gray for Thundercracker), and some small hobby screwdrivers. Be sure to wash this sucker too before you paint the surfaces. Good luck!

all good advise. also understand the diffrence between dried paint and cured paint before attempting a full repaint. that much painting should take well over a week to finish.

very good advice given here by SonOfNemesis.
wash in soapy water and rinse with clean water.
let it dry completely before attempting to paint.
file(faster)/sand down areas which will rub against each other tightly.
yes, removing pins are a hassle but they're worth the effoert.

Cool, best of luck. What kind of paints are you planning on using? Hand-painting or spray painting? Be sure to check out Colonial Photo and Hobby off of SR50 and Mills (just south of Colonial) if you need any supplies. I look forward to seeing the end result.

Hey Lemon prime, long time since I heard from you. There is a new store called Hobby Lobby that I'm going to check out on Friday. I'm going to spray paint mine it's much easier I don't have time like these really talented people on the forums to really put details on these customs. I'm just going to follow what I saw and hope for the best. Will show the results.

Thundercracker is complete. This was my first custom and am happy with it. The way I look at it, this saved me over $200.

Looks a little glossy in the first pic, but beside the others it doesn't look bad at all.

You going to paint on a little more detailing?

That's a nice cartoony shade of blue you picked! Have you had any problems with the paint scratching off at the joints/contact points? Congrats on completing your first custom.

As I stated I'm happy with the outcome.I'm just a little iffy with the areas of paint but like I said it beats paying out of your a$$ for a Botcon/Henkei version. The next project is converting Starscrean into Sunstorm but that is later this year.

I combined dirge with acid storm. the result is closer to G1 than classics but its way easier. btw, i hope you don't mind me posting mine here. My first custom too.
