Hey all you Americans, the 4th of July is a week away! It's almost time to shoot some fireworks! I usually buy a few rockets and roman candles - $20 or $30 worth - and shoot them off. How about you guys?

My family and I used to every year but ever since my aunt banned fireworks from the farm, it just isn't fun anymore.

Sorry, but as awesome as fireworks are and how much I love this country I can not be around them when they go off especially whistling bottle rockets.

I like the big display the city puts on, but I don't like every obnoxious asshole out there having access to them. Plus, they scare everyone's pets.

I use to go nuts with fireworks, but since we got a dog a couple years ago I don't buy them anymore because she's scared enough with everyone else shooting them off.

I miss the good ol' days of bottle rockets and 1/4 sticks.

I used to shoot fireworks, but I only celebrated the 4th once within the past six years due to summer travels out of the country. Ironically, I got a JROTC medal for patriotism this year.

Well, that's a cool story and all, but with all due respect the thread was not for you.

As for the Question, oh you bet I do, I live about 3 miles from a fireworks store so it's on like a light. That being said I don't get the crazy huge ones, just the quality safe ground sort of stuff.

No, they're illegal here. Plus, I live right across the freeway from the high school and the city shoots off a display each year. We can sit in our back yard and get a free show

Well, it's a public thread, and I fancied posting in it. You'll have to deal, honey. ;)

If it makes you happy, we have a little celebration around here a few days before the 4th of July, and though we personally don't set off any fireworks, the city lights some downtown and we can see them from the backyard of our house.

It's not that you posted in it, It's that your post felt of a looking down on people who take part in the holiday and activity sort of context.

    anyway

I love firing off Roman candles and bottle rockets. My uncle usually has a good supply of both every year. :D

The first dog I had was like that. To the point he actually tried to attack the fireworks. The first and only time he did it we were outside of town shooting stuff off and lit one of those rocket shaped ones. Fool dog actually ran up and grabbed it while it was burning. You'd never see a group of people move so fast to get something away from a dog. Fortunately, being the closest, I was able to get it away from him and throw it away before it went off. He found himself locked up in the car after that.

Probably close to twenty years now since he passed away. R.I.P. Freeway, still miss ya.

Sadly though, with how dry things are around here this year, some cities might not put on anything at all :(

Normally we can buy and shoot off fireworks from July 1-6...but this year with a severe drought this summer, most areas are banning any personal fireworks. Sad, but better to not catch the neighborhood on fire.

Glad I haven't purchased any kind of fireworks, otherwise I'd really be bummed.
