I was reviewing my Classics and Energon figures' package backings and cards and I noticed that they use the word "Fireblast" whereas older TFs use "Firepower". Is there a reason for this change?

The term firepower is a millitary term these days, it's considered more politically correct to use fireblast on kids toys for that stat. Oddly enough Star Wars TFs used Firepower for their stats until they stopped printing them on the cards.

The term fireblast is just lame in my opinion. Whenever I see it my brain immediately translates it to firepower.

I just wish that they'd print what they mean and mean what they print. Politically correctness is so over-emphasized.

yeah, I agree. Sometimes I feel we go overboard with political correctness until it becomes silly. Besides, I mean the toys have already a "war theme" i.e. robots at war.

Political correctness sucks. I remember the good old days when kids were actually punished in school for causing trouble, when you could buy really realistic looking cap guns in any old store, calling a black guy "black" or a white guy "white" didn't mean you were a racist, and the term "sensitivity training" didn't even exist. Give me a break, bring back FIREPOWER!!! Fireblast just sounds corny.

It's common knowledge, changing Firepower to Fireblast prevents school shootings.

reminds me of a funny story, years ago we had the the same guns, but they where diecast and had a chrome finish. One of my friends at the time though it would be funny to run into a corner store with it and start yelling at the clerk while pointing it at her. Couldn't believe he did it, but the funny part was when he got arrested shortly after. He got off pretty easy and was lucky the charges were dropped.

Anyway back on topic. I miss firepower on the back of the bio's, dont care of fireblast doesnt have the same ring to it.

Maybe there are firepowers that are not blasts, and this confused the rating system?

"FirePower" is a registered trademark currently held by Palco Marketing, first used in commerce in 2003. Though the intended use is for paintball guns, it's registered in the "toys and sporting goods" category, the same field Hasbro operates in.

It's because "Fireblast" is more "Parent Friendly".

I agree with the general consensus. Firepower > Fireblast. Even though, to be honest, I never noticed this until this thread arose.

Side note: Wow, I was in 6th grade when this was started :lol

Things like this really are the single dumbest ideas I have ever heard of. Why not collaberate with one another so other companies can use a term that will not have anything to do with what you operate in? So because a paintball company trademarked it, a toy company cant use it for toys. Really? What is next.....a fitnees machine company trademarks strength so that can no longer be used? how about aboard game company trademarking intelligence? When will the madness end????

Yeah, thinking about it, this doesn't make much sense... unless Hasbro's lawyers are really, really conservative. Which they kinda are.

"Another company has a common word trademarked! They most likely cannot defend it in court! Let's not take a risk."
