I was thinking, no one thought Transformers would be such a huge hit. Everyone underestimated the legacy of the toy line, cartoons and comics, the work going on at ILM (I myself wasn't expecting the most photorealistic CG creations to date), Bay's last film was actually a financial flop, there were no stars, all the fans were bashing the designs... yet it still made $708.2 million worldwide.

I can't wait to see all the concepts from the first and the second, i hope it's a lot more than we've seen on the designer's websites.

EDIT: looky what i found :D

This was shortly after the release of TF1 that i got to email him and get that reply back.

YEAH! The dream has come true!

EDIT: Geez, Furman is involved with ALL TF reference books, regardless of if he's actually involved with the subject at hand.

Hell yes, been wanting this since Don Murphy mentioned there might be one for Movie 1 but it never happened.

    Great stuff!

Sweet! But it's kinda funny to see Simon Furman's name tacked onto it. :lol

It's kinda hard to keep this in mind, but you're right. Now everyone just seems to assume that a live-action TF movie is a no-brainer, but I remember how much skepticism was in the air around this time two years ago. TF07 was fighting such an uphill battle just before it was released.

In any case, I'm glad that this is coming out. Would you guys be willing to count this as a sequel to the "Transformers: Movie Guide" by Simon Furman that came out to accompany the first movie? That thing was pretty weak, in my opinion.

Nice. But no offense to Furman, but why isn't this edited/written by someone who actually KNOWS about how art and visual development works for a major motion picture...?

I'll definitely want to flip through this one before I commit to buying it. It's supposed to cover BOTH movies and only clocks in at 160 pages? And with footnotes and rambles by Furman? I'm honestly not expecting to be wowed.

To me, this is a great example of how a "Art of" book SHOULD be done:

Amazon.com: The Art of X2: The Collector's Edition, Deluxe Hardcover (X2: X-Men United): Bryan Singer, David Hayter, Zak Penn, Michael Dougherty, Dan Harris, Timothy Shaner: Books

Gary Russell didn't either, but when writing The Art of the Lord of the Rings, he just let the writers talk about their work. I presume Furman will do the same. Besides, a TF veteran like him can ask all the right questions: are all the protoforms the same because it's a skeleton or because ILM reused Optimus' one for all the Autobots? Why did Megatron become an icy plot device? What animals were the robot modelled on? (I'd ask Bob but he's so busy).

There was a book for the first movie, it was around 25$ us last summer.
I didn't buy it for the simplest reason that not even before the movies starts most arts were already on the web
