Its been a long time coming, but I finally spluged some hard-earned cash on a new TV setup.

After much Googling and time spent on the AVS forums, I came to the conclusion that the Samsung Series 5 LCD was the best bang for the buck.

I also got a hi-def cable box and a PS3 which will serve as my Blu-ray player and LAN media hub. I was really happy to see that I was able to stream .avi, .mov and even .mkv files flawlessly :D

I sense massive time on the couch!

Your PS3 is going to burn out in that case...

You'll need better ventilation than what's going on there.

Same TV my father-in-law bought. The thing is an absolute beauty. Great contrast ratio and even does a great job on SD TV broadcasts.

Thanks! It's a 40 inch screen. I could have bought a 52" LG plasma for the same price, but would have taken a serious hit in picture quality. Besides, I think this size is perfect for my living room, so I'm a happy camper :D

Oh, I've got that covered already. If you look carefully, you'll notice that I sawed out the center section of the back of the cabinet. Also, the top shelf, where my home theater amp is, is equipped with two 80mm fans sucking out the warm air that accumulates in there.

It gets warm in there but no where near alarming levels. The PS3's fan will sometimes go on a full blast for a few minutes, but calms down shortly after.

Should I get one of those made-for-PS3 external cooling fan kits as an extra safety measure?

Never, ever buy those intercooler fans. They just cause more damage.

From what I've read, they force air in, which isn't a good thing, considering the back fan blows out hot air.

I think my current setup will work for now, but I'll have to wait and see how it'll perform during those hot summer days.

We got it at Kmart for $400. Pretty good deal, I think.

    Nice setup there, Hook. :thumb

Count me in the wagon as well. 46" Samsung Series 7 for me and perfect as a wall-mounted monitor for my PC and Blu-ray player. (brother bought it as a pre-Xmas present last year, so I chipped in a little)

I am close to looking for my next one. You see I jumped on when it was bleeding edge still quite a few years back and everybody said it was a fad and would not last. I got in so early that I have a 1080i CRT! Yep an HD Picture Tube TV.

I am looking at a 32" RCA LCD at walmart (or anywhere else, if possible) that is just under $500. I looked at the Vizio as well, but didn't know anything about their quality.
I want the RCA so i can connect both my PC and A/V devices to save space.

but nice TV's, Hook and TheIncredibleHulk. really sweet units.

Yeah, it looks like Samsung is the must-get brand for HDTV.

So far so good, I'm really enjoying it :D
